recently returned from another super trip - weaather great - went to my favourite restaurant and were very disappointed with the meal - the rack of lamb was tepid and not cooked through - not just pink by the bone but rather red and my husbands fish had obviously been cooked earlier and then reheated as it was dried out. Must just have been an off night as we have always had super meals there

Controversial

Regular visitor to CAV. Been to Ele and Ela only the once on my parents recommendations. The veg was DISGUSTING! It was tinned!

As a foodie who cooks home made 'most' evenings and understands good produce, I know a tinned carrot from a fresh one.

Having said that, the lamb was excellent!

Sorry, I think there are far better restaurants to be writing home about.

I've been in carvoeiro several times this year and I've eaten most of the nights at Ele & ELa.
And we were never let down. The food has always been excellent and the service great.
Next year when we go to carvoeiro again we will certainly go again to this restaurant.
As it says in the magazine Algarve Essential, they created something totally different!
Looking forward to go there next year.

I have heard lots of good comments about this restaurant, unfortunately I cannot share everyones comments as, although we have been over to CVO 5 times, at different times of the year, I have never found it open. Perhaps we are just unlucky, who knows.

As for the credit card issue, if there is one, we have always used cash on holiday, and lets be honest, the nearest ATM is just across the road anyway. The problem we had one evening while dining out was that at the end of our meal my husband had discovered that he had left his wallet back at the apartment and had to leave me twiddling my thumbs while he ran back up to get it .
PS we were staying at Monte Dourado so it was all up hill. Ah well! he won't do that again.

Ele & Ela

Just spent our fifth visit to CVO and again enjoyed every minute - we alos visited Ele & Ela for the first time. We hadn't booked but were offered a table for our party of 6 if we could wait an hour. Well that gave us chance to watch the world go by at Smilers over a couple of drinks. We then took our table at Ele & Ela - What a fantastic meal! - everyone in our party was ecstatic, so much so we visited them twice mor during our 10 day stay - can't wait to return to CVO next year.

Just got back from Carvoeiro yesterday and Ele & Ela was definitely the est place we ate particularly for me (i'm vegetarian and it offered the best choices) the other 5 in the party all eat meat and thoroughly enjoyed it too. The starters mains and desserts were all delicious and the service was excellent all the staff were very friendly. I can't reccomend this restaurant enough!

I haven't been in this restaurant, but my friend and his wife went in there two June's ago to celebrate their wedding anniversary and said they had a lovely meal.

I met up with them and had drinks at the Poolside Bar on the Quinto do Paraiso site later that evening, which is where we were staying.

First visit to Carvoeiro and have to say this was the best restaurant we visited. Went twice cos the first meal was excellent. My son had the lamb shank which was divine, wifes rack of lamb was also superb. I ordered the Thai fish curry which I enjoyed but would have preferred the lamb.
Second visit, 2 lamb shanks and I had the veal - fab.

Starters, puds, wine and service also very good.

Compared the rack of lamb at L'Orange - very ordinary. Shame cos the rest of the food was pretty good.

Notable mention to one of the Sardine restuarants in Portimao - can't remember the name. Had a Golden Bream - best fish I've had in ages.

this place is vastly over rated , we were in carvoeiro during august , and while the restaurant was empty around 7pm , they refused myself & wife and four year old daughter a table , like i said the place was empty and there were no reservations marked on the tables . this is the third time weve been refused at this restaurant ?

maximes never fails !!

Fiona/Chris,

Did you try and book ? Have you ever eaten there ?

If the answer to both the above is no. then I found your comment that the restaurant is over rated a bit strange - after all isn't a fully booked restaurant usually a good sign

Agree with e-richard. Most people eat after 7.00 so it is not unusual for it to be fully booked. Last time we were over and ate there, according to Claudio it had been fully booked the previous 2 evenings. As it was on the night we ate. They were turning people away at the door. If you want to eat in a quality restuarant in season you need to book.
