Carvoeiro - something a little more up market :-)
Hi folks,
we have been to the Algarve on several occasions (Praia da Rocha and Alvor)
and also Madeira last year.
From the sounds of it Carvoeiro has no end of restaurants to choose from. So I am looking a few suggestions on places that may stand out a little from the rest - something perhaps little more expensive that the others? Places to go on a few nights when we are feeling like we should really spoil ourselves
All help gratefully accepted.
Thanks,
Steve.

I would definitely book at Bella Vita, Ele Ela, Maximes and Rei das Praias - I think phone numbers are on FAQS. Quinta Rosal - probably not necessary, but it might be worth it, especially if you're getting a taxi.
Prices probably 60-100 euros per couple depending on what you order, how expensive the wine etc - but could be a lot less.

I would also agree about Maximes in Carvoeiro.
Depending on your tastes and wine probably about 80 - 150 euros per couple would be a very good 3 course meal with wine.

We tried Primavera for the first time a few months ago, I'm afraid the food was indifferent, the service was pretty bad and it was expensive for what we had.
Our starters were given to a couple who came in about twenty minutes after us, but ordered the same things - they were sitting outside and we were inside - and no-one came to explain or apologise, they just left us sitting there for about an hour before our food came.
The waiters kept avoiding us when we tried to get their attention, and only admitted the problem when the food finally arrived. Mistakes happen and if they had explained, apologised, maybe offered us a drink we would have laughed it off, but no.
When the starters came the Caesar salad had a vinaigrette dressing, not a caesar dressing and the rest was fairly unremarkable apart from the bill when it came.
I know you should give restaurants a second chance, but with so many to choose from, I'm afraid I rarely do. Villa Medici is another one that we tried once and have never been back to.

Generally, I agree with that statement.kteee wrote:..I know you should give restaurants a second chance, but with so many to choose from, I'm afraid I rarely do..
Only time that I may give a restaurant a second chance is when I see a positive review here on CVO.COM written by someone who has given other restaurants a review that I agree with (good or bad).
Its not a perfect system, but it has been known to pay off.
Can't agree with Primavera - expensive and only just acceptable quality.
In the village - has to be Ele & Ela or Maximes.
Bellavita at Club Atlantico is wonderful for food but I found the service too good, if that makes sense, too effusive.
Marinha is okay. We stayed within 200m of it last year - went there once and didn't return. There is much better in the village & surrounds.
All very subjective, of course, but isn't that the point. 'One man's meat' and all that.
