Ma Ja's
Has anyone eaten in the new restaurant called Ma Ja's that is on the road that leads up from the post office to the road at the top of Carvoeiro?
Hi, thought we good get in first before any other replies come in!! We are on the road opposite the post office on the down road from Monte Cvo, offering homemade classic English dishes as well as vegetarian and international food. We have only been opened for a couple of weeks and have received very good feedback from our guests so far. So please come up or down depending on where you are staying and give us a try for yourself! We look forward to meeting you soon. Mark and Jan

As it happens I ate there just last night.
Is it a bar or is it a restaurant or is it a cafe ? Well, yes and no. Its all 3, but well ...... its Ma-Ja's. You can just go for a drink, sit at the bar or tables, you can snack on interesting looking salads, baguettes etc, or there's a "proper" food menu. I was on my own, tried the Spaghetti & Bacon special, and was well pleased. I don't think Egon Ronay will be beating a path to this establishment, but the food was freshly cooked and tasted as if it had.
Got a friendly welcome from Mark and Jan, and I'm sure they will still be there this time next year, but maybe with some changes to the fare and ambience, who knows ?
Its not really that far off the beaten track, so I would recommend the short climb to see if there is a spare table next time you're in the area.
Mark & Jan, see, I warned you I'd write about it !

Sharen and I went there on Tuesday (10 April) and met Jan and Mark. It might be a bit 'off-track' but not that far and it's well worth a visit. The 'specials' menu is very good and, if we'd have gone there sooner we would certainly have eaten our way through a good few of them!
I wish Jan and Mark every success and urge you all to try it out - if you don't like it you don't have to go back . . . . but you probably will

tis good
Hiya,
We ate at MJ's & it was really good.
Jan & Mark are doing a really good menu & it is all well executed.
St Georges Day was covered over 3 days/ nites, if my memory serves me well and the menu was perfect, lots 2 choose from.
They put balloons etc up & served a traditional British/ English fayre.
The Sunday 3 course meal is very good value & tasty.
With the season being slow 2 kick start I hope more visitors arrive & that word of mouth helps to put them on the map for a jolly good feed & drink & good time 2.xx
