Re: Dyson DC15 Animal Ball (Upright)
No doubt like most I have also had various makes of electrical appliances, cars and many other things over the years. However, each one of us I daresay could tell stories of products that they have not been happy with as well as those they have.
By way of example, for years I had a Hoover washing machine and when it finally carried out its last twirl and spin, we purchased the top of the range computerised Hoover replacement. Eleven days after its guarantee had expired, it broke down. What I recall of it we were charged £60 plus vat call out, only to be advised that the motherboard required replacement. The cost of the computerised motherboard, and engineer’s time was around £150.
My husband put the machine in the back of his vehicle and drove it to the nearest Council Refuge Tip. He then went out and purchased a mechanical one, because he could repair it himself. Prior to purchasing a Dyson DC10 (I personally, need upright machines) we purchased a bag less Hoover. This machine, as it sucked simply threw the dirt and dust back out. We wrote several letters to Hoover, all to no avail and like the washing machine it too ended up at the local skip. Sometime later we heard that Hoover withdrew this model and believed because of many complaints about it. Rumour had it that they tried to beat Dyson’s model on the market and maybe that it why a court case ensued, Dyson v Hoover?
I have had a Dyson DC10 (Upright) for more years than I can remember and have been more than pleased with it.
I and anyone else can post various sites praising up the Dyson range, as other sites can praising up another make of cleaner. But at the end of the day it is” thank god" freedom of choice of what product I wish to purchase and I am a great believer in that old saying you (normally) "get what you pay for". Happy cleaning everybody and Penny I know that you painted that face of Henry on your little cylinder.

Further to the comment, cheap labour. I do not want to turn this thread into a political one, in that it was not "my" original intention. Firstly, Dyson is a Registered Limited Company in the UK and therefore, pays taxes.

Very briefly let’s take a quick look at the UK and what it actually produces now days. Sadly, I feel that the answer is, not a lot. Correct me if I am wrong but was it not Maggie T, that killed the industrial base off and those in the know again “thank god” put everything into Insurance and Oil. Think, really hard. A thought for today maybe. In the Uk one litre of petrol is almost £1 (that’s almost £5 a gallon). The state take over 60% in tax and they sell the original barrel of oil, that we/government own. Brent Crude etc.
War in Falklands :?:

I am sure other people know what I meant by the phrase 'that sort of money' i.e. the money you spent on it esp. compared with other vacuum cleaners and my other phrase 'so special'.

To be honest, the only people I have heard say a good word about Dyson is Dyson themselves. This is why I am so surprised anyone would want to go to such lengths and such expense to get hold of one, when I am sure there are plenty of vacuum cleaners available for much less that will do an equal or better job.

I know of loads of people sucked in by Dysons ads about how wonderful they are, only to find the expensive machine not to be all that wonderful and to break down after only a few months.

That is why I wanted your opinion as to why you felt this machine to be worth the expense you paid and the amount of hassle you spent in getting one.

Hi Summer,
Thank you for replying and explaining to me your view, it is much appreciated.
I trust that you will agree that I have already given my reply to you, in that I am both extremely happy with Dyson Products and I do not mind for what “I” consider a middle of the road price and with a little organisation getting the product best suited for my needs.
I would also like to add that life has always taught me, to always gain first hand knowledge and where possible, personal experience for myself, before making any comment. I am quite sure that you will not disagree that it would be totally unfair to do otherwise.
Kind Regards.Rosy.

Have just been going through all the comments with regard Dyson Cleaners.

I to cannot understand why someone living in the "sun" most probably in a nice Villa with tiled floors etc. would need a Dyson. We have been out to the village for a number of years now to the same villa, and most of the rooms just had rugs down, so I to cannot understand why all the trouble to get one of these machines out to Portugal. I had a Dyson, and mine when to the local tip, as I found that all the small parts were just made of plastic and kept getting broken.

I bought a new Panasonic upright one two years ago and have never looked back. I have a small dog who molts like all dogs do and have no problem in sweeping all his haris fo the carpets or wooden floors.

But for lazy people like me hoovering tiled floors is the best way to pick all the crap up. Sweeping just moves the dust about from one place to the other. However, my hoover cost €24,99 from Worten and is one of those little wheelie things.

Rosy's rugs on the other hand may well be another proposition and need more industrial sized cleaning equipment.

Hmmm...cleaning...shall we move on?

With respect, I too cannot understand what living in the sun or any other environment has got to do with this thread. Surely, in any situation "sucking" up dust and the like and not "sweeping" is better all round.

Our properties are our homes, in other words we do not let. Therefore, rugs as described by Skyrocket 9 no doubt can be easily lifted for cleaning and taken outside and dealt with.
However, we have very large Chinese & Persian Rugs, which takes several to lift, inclusive of marble and tiled floors. We also have two large Dogs, who live as part of the family (inside).
One member of our family suffers with allergies, so rather than sweep and then wash, we have over the years selected our machines to suit our particular needs.
I was sad to learn of your disappointment with your Dyson, although you did not say which model you had (but then that of course is irrelevant) in so far as you advise its breakdown. Unfortunately, on any make of item, sadly it would seem the “Luck of the Draw”.

Anyway, and I repeat myself at the end of the day, I am happy with my cleaner. But if it does not give me the service I expect from it. I will be honest enough to tell you all.
Rosy. :)

My mother and mother-in-law have both owned Dysons, so I have seen the machines and seen them in action, and in-action

To gain even more personal experience, in any item, I would have to own it. I don't think I could possibly own every vacuum cleaner in order to find out its usefulness or reliability.

You may feel that xxx amount of pounds or euros (whatever you spent) was a resonable amount to spend ona vacuum cleaner. I feel most of the rest of us live in the real world though!

Oh, and I do have a vacuum cleaner and I do use it regularly. It is from a well-known industrial manufacturer who make cleaners to a very high standard and are used in hospitals, by professional valeters etc. I had one of their previous models for over 10 years working perfectly. Cleaning, washing, picking up pet hairs etc. Neither cost anything like the amount you have spent.

This is the reason I wanted to know why any Dyson could be worth the money and hassle you spent.

You pays your money, you makes your choice!
My daughter had a lot of problems with the Dyson she bought a few years back.
We have a Bissell V.C 'Turbo brush', which cost less than a £100. Its very powerful.
Personally, after all these years, I hate all the domestic stuff..and I usually rope H in to do the hoovering,as I hate it and would rather do the soap & water stuff..mopping!
My dream is to retire to the sun, some time in near future (house goes on the market in July)...and then, for the first time in my life........
pay someone to come in and clean once a week! That will be my idea of luxury :)

Summer,
Your above post is rude and uncalled for and I trust that you will apologise. Thank you.

ellie,
There does seem to be quite a few complaining about the Dyson. I wonder if it is the same model though, because no one has actually said the model number that they have had the problem with. As I said I have had uprights DC10 and in the pipeline the DC15. The DC10 wonderful, the DC15 I have yet to experience.

Years ago I had a Bissell Carpet Shampoo Master and that was extremely good.

I think I will bail out now. I mean this thread is getting really boring, I only started it to explain ways and means of getting goods from Uk, that you cannot obtain easily here. :)
