2006 top 5

Post by logan »

hiya, myself and 5 others are coming to carvoeiro for the second time in june...

after looking under the restaurant reviews section i found a post that i was looking for... namely everybodys top 5 restaurants - i know that everyboys will be different.

but its nice to know what everybodys general thoughts are and what they like..

as it was dated (the old post) 2004, and as places close-down, change hands etc etc i thought it was worth asking people what their current top 5 is - the 2006 version :)

anything in the carvoeiro area or close surrounding area is good, but nothing that only does fish! as 1 person doesnt like fish  apart from that were not fussy!

thanks, james

Can't believe that Ele & Ela hasn't turned up in any list yet. Best food in town.

But really, if you look at these lists, its clear that almost every restaurant in Carvoeiro (that is still in business) is on someone's favourite list.

Also missing, and should have been on those lists above:
- O Salmao (in Monte Carvoeiro)
- Barnhards in Ferragudo

Its probably more fruitful to list restaurants to avoid.

I have a list of only 1

1. O Boteca

Agree with you Richard on the one to avoid, what a waste of a good location. no point in doing our top 5 as they have all been mentioned

5) Ele & Ela

Just to confirm, I have no connection whatsoever with this restaurant - it is without doubt the best I have been to outside a capital city.

Why has Happys escaped this esteemed list!!! It's probably the only place in CVO where you always need to book.
Its hugely popular with the villa owners, and they occupy it most nights.

Wonderful Fish and chips, jumbo Maderian kebabs, and yes...frogs legs!
Where else can you have all this and all the bantering insults you can endure from the Dutch owner, Libbe.

O Stop is good, but unfortunately closed at present due to some major works being undertaken at Vale de Centianes, should be open by June, hopefully. In fact my feeling is that once they have finished the road down here then this will become a favourite place for many.

Well, the approach to the beach at Vale De Centianes was just a dirt track, this is in the process of being rebuilt as a proper road, with bricks etc, it is almost finished with a pavement, carpark, proper paved road, electric lights, nice steps goingup the side of the cliff (alongside colina Sol), nice steps leading up to the road, good steps leading down to the beach from O Stop. I just hope it doesn't become known as the most romantic place in the locale (because it is!).

Does this mean that O Stop is going to be a "proper" restaurant rather than a snack bar and a pit stop on the way up from the beach? That would be really good
We were there a month ago, and knowing how quickly things get done, wonder if all that ambitious work will be done in time for the summer!
Those new steps down from the back of Colina Sol, will make the climb down from our villa easier!
