Mozzies in Carvoeiro

Post by Bruxinha »

What is the mozzie situation like in Carvoeiro at the moment? I ask because I am plagued with them here in the outback this evening. I have killed about 6 of the little buggers in the last few minutes, while sitting here at my laptop. Aaaaaaaggggghhhhhh...

Who invented them and WHY?

Surely Lizards and Geckos could eat something marginally less irritating. :?

I now have some lovely bites on my face and that noise.

You would have thought so - wouldn't you? And it doesn't explain why we have them here - being a bit short on lizards and geckos in this neck of the woods. (The woods being the blinking problem  )

Don't you have nets on the windows and doors?

Yes, but you have to open them to get out and then the buggers fly in. :D

You will have to fill in the swimming pool and get any neighbours to fill in theirs - they need standing water to breed and apparently have no aversion whatsoever to chlorine!! The blighters!

Yer, plus it also doesn't help having rice fields near here either. Oh well, the net is over the bed and if I drink enough I might not hear them either. The joys of countryside life.

Whisky is the secret Bruxy - they won't come near you if you drink whisky. For some reason that God only knows they don't like the smell of it, so a few tots before you retire should do the trick.

If a swimming pool is being correcty managed, no such problem as you imply would be applicable.

Bruxinha,
A little bird told me, that Zoe decided to claw one of the patio door nets to your cottage. So of course as a deterrent it is obviously not correctly working. Can't you stuff Zoe in the hole that she has made in order to stop the mosquitoes getting in

Sorry if I have muddied the water.

And you are right - the problem tends to be though that eggs are laid over the winter and can survive the cooler temps very well and hatch in the spring and some pools are less well 'managed' over the winter.

Anyway it looks as if the rice fields have a lot to answer for in this case :)

My bear...sorry, dog might just try to eat the chameleon though.

Thanks for all the tips. I think I am going down the pub now...ok, bar. I don't normally like whisky but maybe I'll give it a go, especially as I am due to visit a whisky drinking mate in Lisboa this weekend. Até logo amigos meus. 8)
