Sewerage charges when not on mains drainage
Sewerage charges when not on mains drainage
If you have a fosse and are not on mains drainage it is worth checking your water bills to see if you are paying tarifa de DAR (Drenagem de Aguas Residuais). If you are you shouldn't be!
You can get a form from the Aguas office in Lagoa to cancel the charge and (mixed experiences here) get a refund of charges previously paid. You need to return the completed form together with a copy of the "planta de localaçao" for your property to show that there are no mains drains where you live. You can get the copy plan on request from the Camara offfice without charge but you need to be able to identify where your property is because they extract an A4 copy from a much larger map.
The Tarifa de RSU (Residuos Solidos Urbanos) is not what you might think but actually refers to ther refuse collection from the large green bins and you do have to pay this

A very good point, Steve.
I had meant to post something like that on here but was going to wait for the results of some requests made. Thank you for the reminder
Over the last weeks we have received several positive responses followed by a cheque over the outstanding amount. Even for houses that have only been habitable for a few months the sums rounded the €150 mark and made the paperwork very worthwhile.

Hi Martin,
can we clarify a point here?! Do you, or do you know of any body else, whom has their fossa emtied by the camara free of charge? I pay an amount on my water bill and pay a private contractor to come and take care of the emptying!
