WALK MONDAY 6 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
WALK MONDAY 6 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
With formal confirmation received that the usual intrepid walk leaders are away next week, the following is a reboot of my post from last week:
I will lead a walk that I led a few years ago and some may have completed back in January. Under Willie’s tutelage I was able to get the group through the very scenic Porches to Albandeira route in 2023, so this is a repeat of that very pleasant walk.
The start point is the Cafe/Restaurant known as Casa de Pasto a Paragem - easily found on Google maps or Waze. Coming from Carvoeiro take the N125 heading east towards Faro. Go past the International School and the new roundabout for Benagil and pass the two BP garages. Just after this take the first right off the ‘Porches’ roundabout heading uphill for Porches & Armacao de Pera. There is another roundabout where you keep right for Armacao de Pera. Keep on this main road and after about 1/2 mile you will come to open ground on the right side then the Casa de Pasto a Paragem. There is a lot of open ground for parking opposite. This is the start point. The cafe is usually open for coffee.
No charge and the usual caveats apply - the weather looks promising.
Start : 10am start.
Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5 ) : 1, easy (but there is the odd short climb)
Duration : 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on how long we admire the views.
I will organize a lunch at the start point, Casa de Pasto a Paragem (good basic Portuguese food).
If you’d like to join please also note if you wish to stay for lunch. I will advise capacity once I contact the restaurant. Based on the past couple of walks there should be no problem with numbers for the walk or the lunch.

Reposting to place at top of list.

I’m really pleased this walk is taking place over Easter when I’m visiting as it’s usually when I’m not about! My nearest beach is Albandeira….
Count me in - Caroline and friend, Lucy. Probably not lunch but I will confirm.

Don
When we last did this walk in January there was a slight problem with the meal. The owner was delighted to host us but not until 1.30 at the earliest due to her large local trade. We got back from the walk around 12.30.
As there is not a lot of room to sit or stand around we said if we did the walk again, with lunch, we would start later so we were not hanging around on the pavement beside the busy road.
As it is a 2.5 hrs walk then maybe a later start time of around 10.30/10.45 would be better.

Hi Willie, I went there today and reserved 10 spots for 1pm on Monday. They were getting busy at 1pm so glad I checked.williew wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 11:44 pm Don

Colin and Sharon for the walk and lunch please.
Re: WALK MONDAY 6 APRIL: PORCHES TO ALBANDEIRA
A lovely walk with fifteen Ramblers who gambled that we'd stay dry for the duration despite the small threat of rain looming.

Mandatory group picture on the cliff - the view to Armação de Pêra was a little cloudy today. Among our numbers was Caroline - one of the founding members of the Carvoeiro Ramblers.
