Walk 23 February : Western Funcho.Closed.
Walk 23 February : Western Funcho.Closed.
Walk is now closed.
A walk and restaurant we last visited in Feb 2024.
It's a just under 2.5 hours and it has a couple of steady inclines, but is otherwise predominantly flat(ish), 11kms. A couple of the descents can be a bit slippery with loose scree. Lovely views of a full barragem. Expect to find some big puddles!
Difficulty ( on a scale of 1:5) : most is 2 (moderate) but a short part is 3(energetic)
Start : 10.00.....but please be there by 0945 if you want a coffee and order lunch.
Duration :just under 2 hours 30 mins.
Optional lunch at Casa da Vinha. The price is now 13€ pp plus drinks, so expect to pay about 16€ pp.
Directions : drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island, which has a large palm tree on it.
Drive in the direction of the Barragem for 1km when there is a cafe on the left ( A Rainha): turn right, signposted Canestros and Gregorios.
Drive through both Canestros and Gregarios for 3kms then make a sharp left turn, almost doubling back on yourself.
Drive for 2kms until you come to a T junction at the top of the hill, turn right , drive through the village and Casa de Vinha is on the right. Please park opposite.
Map ref : 37.250498, -8.350511
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain.....I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk. Poles and stout trainers/walking boots recommended.
Please advise if you are intending to come, and whether you want lunch
I am limiting this walk to a max of 20 people.
Any questions , please email : geoffrey.j.hill@btopenworld.com

Re: Walk 23 February : Western Funcho.Closed.
Geoff,
Mike and Karen would like to stay for the lunch. I think there are still enough spaces.
Thanks,
Mike

A flurry of late cancellations meant 16 walkers and 15 lunchers. Lovely sunny day, not too much of a problem getting to barragem....
One landslip...
Great to see barragem full:
Some subsidence though....
....and worse on way back
Nice meal at Casa de Vinha.....about 2 h 45 mins, bit slower than last time, but we aren't getting younger...
