Walk 9 June 2025 : Honey Cafe and O Tasco
Walk 9 June 2025 : Honey Cafe and O Tasco
Unfortunately (?) can't now do the first hilly section as it's cordoned off. It's still a very pleasant 2+hour walk .
Fortunately, the Honey Cafe is now open on a monday!
Start : 0930....but 0915 of you want a coffee & to order lunch.
Degree of difficulty ( scale 1:5) : probably 3 , couple of steepish slopes
Lunch:this is optional, but we will be going back to O Tasco , an old favourite. The standard Prata de Dia there is now 13.5€ but only includes a limited choice of main dish. With tip expect to pay about 15€ pp.
I will check out what Monday Menu is, but it is likely to be Frango Assada or something a bit fishy....prawn omlette last time if
I recall.
Directions: From Lagoa, coming from CVO, turn left on the N125 and go past the turn-off for Alvor. After a few hundred yards, there is a BP station on your right and a road signposted " Senhora do Verde, Vidigal, Casais, Alcalar, Torre" : turn right here. IF you go past the Hotal Penina on your left, you have gone too far
Go up this road ( M532). After going through a single lane tunnel and after about another 1/4 mile, make sure you follow the road bending left signed Alcalar ; do NOT go straight on.
You should then soon be crossing the motorway. Carry on, passing A Taberna Nicola cafe on your right, and Cafe Andre a bit later on your left. Carry on past O Tasco, on the left. Just past O Tasco, bear left and follow the Monchique sign. About 5 minutes after O Tasco, you will see a building on the right that used to be a cafe : bear left here ( signposted Montes de Cima, Marmalete, Casais ) and drive on for about 3kms till you get to Montes de Cima. Follow the road round to the right to the cafe Taberna da Manel ( Honey cafe) ; park opposite, or a bit further up the road. Please do not park just outside the cafe.
Map reference : 37.241448, -8.611435
Usual caveats: all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain.....I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0800 on the day of the walk.
Walking boots/stout trainers , walking pole(s), hats and water recommended. No charge, of course.
Any questions , please ask .
Numbers will be limited to 20, so it is essential to respond below if you want to come. Please also state whether you will want lunch .

Certainly my last walk , and probably the last of the season.....I checked the menu , it's Frango Assada and she wasn't sure whether it will be Prawn omlette or Calamari.Back just in time for the last(?) walk!

Weather didn't look too promising, but temp was early twenties with a nice breeze and sun at end of walk, so all very nice....14 walkers, 13 lunchers , and 2 newbies in Max and Gill.
The occassional puddle...
Just over 2 hours, then to O Tasco . Lovely lunch:
We toasted Rob and Caroline's 41st Anniversary
Our last walk till November, have a lovely summer, thanks for your company.
