My village does not have umpteen bars and restaurants, villas, apartments and shops but my local town does

Sue we have some friends that live in Woolton Vilage and it's full of pubs and restaurants and all the pubs have live music most nights , now ours only has one pub and one club and is minut in comparison

I know Woolton well, my sister in law lives there and I spent my early teens looking for Beatles around the area
Woolton Village was its official name.
Carvoeiro became a separate/independent parish in 1985 and raised to the status of town on 19 April 2001 - from Wikipedia.

All sounds a lot of fuss over not a lot.....seaside towns/villages are always quieter in the winter than the summer, don't see how that surprises anyone...... if you want a bit more company, travel a bit.....we were at Girasol last night, had almost the last table ; about 40 there, 75% locals with a smattering of Brits ( 32€ for 3 courses with wine & coffee for 4 too!). The Station Restaurant at Parchal looked very full and jolly too, might try that tonight.
Oh, and O Grilho, out at Fuzeiros, had a dozen for thursday lunch ( wild boar stew, great!). There's plenty of life around!

See below. Not true. The Wolf is NOT closing for 3 weeks in January. It is closing for 3 days later in December and closed on Wednesdays in the winter

To those of you who are not around in the Village ( Know it is a town officially but by most peoples standards to small to be one anywhere but Portugal) it may be very quiet for tourists but just to let you know there is a lot of activity on the building front with many places being refurbished, renovated and built so all is looking good for a very good 2016.

We went to Carvoeiro today hoping to have lunch in the Vimar. It had 'Day off' on the door. The only places we could find open were Chinese or Indian. Hopefully it was only one day as we were planning to go there on Monday.

I don't know where you looked but at lunchtime Earth was open, The Wolf was open, Le Cro was open, Café Fino was open, Improvisto was open and many, many others too.

It does not help potential visitors (or the local restauranteurs) if you post inaccurate information making CVO seem closed and lifeless!!!!!

The established food businesses have enough to contend with given the mass of Camara provided free tents/spaces on the square occupied by various entities selling food without paying rent. I do not know what the Camara is thinking about hitting the established rate paying businesses in this way. The square looks and smells like a downmarket fairground particularly after the fiasco in Portimao this August - see below

A festival featuring street food of many varieties, a party atmosphere, a warm night, what possibly could go wrong?

With one child seriously ill in hospital and around 100 others suffering from salmonella poisoning, the organisers can do little more at this stage than collect the names of those affected and offer apologies.

The extent of the mass poisoning became clear as the A&E admission staff realised they had a bigger problem than a few tummy bugs and it soon became clear via Facebook that the common cause was pork rolls bought from the Mr Pig stand at the festival.

With over 100 people in hospital and a two-year-old “seriously ill” according to medical staff, the regional health authority analysis has confirmed the common cause is salmonella poisoning, soon tracked down to the Mr Pig stand.

The well-publicised Street Food Festival took place between July 23 and August 2. The organisers have stated that "it appears that a bacterium in a specific part of the pig served on Wednesday and Thursday caused the problem."

Speaking as one who spent many of his formative years growing up in an English seaside resort that effectively became a ghost town between the end of October and Easter, I see nothing particularly unusual about Carvoeiro becoming very quiet during November, December, January and February.
The village economy, (or town if Pato prefers), is geared that way.
if you like, it gorges in the summer, and lives off the stored fat in the winter.

There are other places the thrill seekers can go, but for people like us, Carvoeiro is a wonderful place to be in the winter.
