Removing waterproofing sealant from a terrace
Removing waterproofing sealant from a terrace
I'm trying to remove old sealant from a small Terrace. It's so difficult. Can you buy a solvent type that would dissolve it. Or any tips to help removal.

In my experience ,it would be cheaper and easier to remove the small terrace from the waterproof sealant.

How about a blow torch?

Tried a blow torch, Stanley blade and scraper! If the layer was thick it was OK to remove. Otherwise so difficult.

Quarter villa along road from us had unfortunate experience of a tradesman using a blowtorch.Farol wrote:How about a blow torch?
Gutter had a leak, one owner called tradesman for quote. Tradesman duly appeared and, withour owners' permission decided to repair as a quick/minor repair. Type of roof had old fashioned felt material that was set alight very easily.
Fire service called and attended very promptly (fire sation and 2 miles away). And then the fun began!!! The fire had got a good hold of villa and firefighters tried to hook up the nearest fire hydrant - dry! And so were the next 3 closest to the property on fire. They had to call out more tenders to use their hoses to run a water line from the nearest working hydrant which was half a mile away.
Villa was completed destroyed, just the sandstone walls left intact. One unlucky owner (who was selling his quarter villa) was on holiday!!
Took several years of legal wrangling to sort out the insurance liability.
Within a week of the incident we discovered we had a hydrant in our street as we now have a lovely yellow painted plate on the pavement and a yellow painted kerbstone!
