Sexual Assaults on young girls 2004 to 2010
Re: Sexual Assaults on young girls 2004 to 2010
1) This is not a new link.Wiltsie wrote:The fact that it's taken the British police to establish some kind of link to this person, years after the Madeline McCann disappearance, tells its own story in my view.
Some v naive comments on here; people trying to protect their rentals.
A large percentage of assaults and the like against children never get reported or recorded. Portugal is well known for harbouring paedos from all over Europe or more accurately turning a blind eye.
2) I do not own any property in the Algarve
3) What statistics do you have that show Portugal is any worse than the UK for paedos?
Re: Sexual Assaults on young girls 2004 to 2010
I'm sorry, but I'm a wee bit confused. Did these people speak to the intruder? Really? They spoke to him and got close enough to smell him and then did nothing else ?
I'm not saying it didn't happen, but if I found someone wandering around in my home I wouldn't be having a chat with him.The clip I saw on BBC i-player was very vague in that all it showed was a map and gave no details as to what had happened and when. The same map was printed in the Mirror this morning ( saying 6 attacks ) .
It's all very odd and I don't know what to make of it all.

Those are outrageous statements - to say people are "saving their rentals" is just insulting (I do not own property in Portugal) and cannot see how you can justify saying that. As for Portugal being well-known for harbouring paedofiles - something I have never heard and challenge you to prove it!Wiltsie wrote:The fact that it's taken the British police to establish some kind of link to this person, years after the Madeline McCann disappearance, tells its own story in my view.

2º I do not own a house in Portugal
3º You only write but you don't support it with facts. It is very easy to write but without facts or proofs it means nothing.
4º If you had your children assaulted you would not report it? I doubt it!
5º Total Crime for Portugal in 2012 | +/- 10 million people | Total Crime
6º Total Crime for Greater London | +/- 8 million people | Total Crime

It's important to keep a sense of perspective. In general, Carvoeiro and the Algarve is relatively safe but nowhere is 100% crime free, common sense and sensible practises will significantly reduce the likelihood of being a victim.
Unfortunately Del.orean most sexual assaults are likely to go unreported and when one considers the various reasons it is understandable.
Never be complacent regarding the safety of your children, no matter where you are.

Frank

Could not agree more. Have never heard such a load of rubbish. Cancel your holiday and enjoy the stupidity which occurs in th UK.frank wrote:It's important to keep a sense of perspective. Camerons involvement and his instructon to the UK police to turn over every stone in this high profile case will inevitably lead to a lot of dead ends and wild goose chases.
This is what we are seeing now,the BBC will have scheduled the prog months ago, it could not report , nothing to report so a possibly, maybe perhaps, could be, theory emerges.
Raises the profile of the program, sells a lot of papers the following day.
Hopefully it will not have raised the hopes of the parents as has happened so mant times before in similar circumstances.

Is it possible to define what is meant by 'foreign accent' in this instance? Is it foreign to a Portuguese person or is it foreign to an English speaking person?
Not such a silly question - as may become clear.
When this post appeared I read it out to some friends (all with Cvo connections) and almost in unison blurted out the same 'name' of a person whose background puts them in contention. Those of us who have been around Cvo for 10 years or more will recall the revelation in a UK red-top tabloid that a person with a tawdry past and a significant criminal conviction (relevant to this case) was living and working in Carvoeiro. The revelation was repeated in the Algarve Resident together with all the sordid details as the person was well known and well thought of - until the news got out. If the accent could be narrowed to a region - it could stop the person's name coming to mind.
That person remained in Cvo long after all the bad-press and I saw them in Izi's and around the Monte Carvoeiro area just under a year ago. I may be wrong and that person may have already spoken to the GNR/Police and could have been eliminated - but it's a thought given the nature of the recent reports.
Has anybody else from the early 2000's had the same thought

THat thought had not occured to me, When buying our paper this morning I did see the headlines of one of the UK,s less reliable papers naming another suspect and that he too had been known about for some time.

I thought it seemed quite obvious who the person is that you are referring to, but I know that person is no longer alive so I can only think you must be referring to someone else! Who ! I wonder?

As previously posted the person I am referring to and will not name here - for very obvious reasons was alive and in Lagoa last week.American Pie wrote:I thought it seemed quite obvious who the person is that you are referring to, but I know that person is no longer alive so I can only think you must be referring to someone else! In the hope I am mistaken - the person I saw and exchanged 'Hi' with has a remarkable resemblance to the person I am referring to, and recognised me. I don't know any other person who resembles the person and that I would have acknowledged in the street. I reluctantly exchanged 'Hi' out of civility and could not bring myself to cross the narrow road to avoid them. On the basis of their reported demise on here I have trawled the internet to see if I could find any report of the person's death. I know the person's name from the time when all the fuss 'blew-up' and sure enough all the lurid detail from back them came up - but no death report. Given the previous media coverage I would have expected some coverage - if 'my' person had been on the police radar - lamenting the missed opportunity to put a name in the frame.
I have on a few occasions said hello to people I thought I knew - this could be one of them - but I don't think so

Hi Shanegarry
I don't doubt what you are saying only that we may be thinking of two different people as the person I am thinking of is definitely dead. I suppose we shall never know. As you say, no names can be mentioned
