Sunman is right the main broadcasters are doing deals with reputable companies BUT what he ommits to say is that as yet the BBC etc cannot legally provide live feeds outside of the UK.
Those who are doing this are " stealing " the signal eg Filmon ( in court ) or others who provide you with a phony internet address ( VPN ).
Eventually there will be legal providers ( at a cost to viewers ) and those who steal the signals will be driven out of business.
On our new Cabo Visao service we can add a number of sports channels including the premier league and golf ( if we wanted ).We get BBC news and Sky news as part of the basic package.
If the demand is there then local providers in Spain, Portugal etc will start to do deals and add more UK content to their packages.

Emm, sometimes it's difficult to not engage with you because you waffle on to the point of giving people so much poor advice.
When you were going on about all the lawyers rubbing their hands with glee to sue all the online broadcasters I instead followed my own research & bought a few shares in Netflix, and as you'll see from the chart my children & granddaughter will be doing a little better at Christmas than if I'd listened to you.

and if watching BBC in Portugal is so illegal, what are you doing watching it? months of droning on about the Astra 2 satellite, losing Channel 5 etc., why did you ever have a box in your house? and why weren't the bars that showed Premier League football for the past 15 years not raided every week?

the actual easiest thing to do is to be a SmartTV, tune it into your router, subscribe to Netflix or Filmon & simply watch what you like, when you like, as well as streaming just about every film ever made they both do a lot of straightforward TV streaming as well now,

oh, and re Cabo, like MEO, the sports channels cost a fortune which is why you haven't subscribed; I hope your punters will be happy watching Sky News all day or Peppa Pig in Portuguese

To do ths there are two options, 1) the signal stealers , Filmon etc who are paying their lawyers a fortune n the US and European courts as they are beng sued by the broadcasters for taking their program content and re broadcasting it,

Sunman I doubt for one minute that you buy stolen goods or would give anyone who you bought from or provided you with a service a false address and name yet it seems you think that its is OK as far as the internet is concerned.

they won't be closed EMM, the present & future of TV is via the internet, not TV broadcast, so they're just working away around that, absolutely not looking to close it

I see that vodafone are looking at options to enter the TV market. Package with content including TV, Internet, mobile phone & landline to compete direct with BT, Sky & Virgin. Should be good news for consumers not sure about vodafone shareholders?

For a start Sunman we pay Cabo nothing like the amount you state for phone, high speed internet and TV , not even half the figure you quote.

well, in my own experience with MEO, the basic broadband, telephone & cable TV cost €35 per month, I then subscribed to 2 golf HD channels to watch the Ryder Cup & golf from Europe, and Sport TV HD to watch Premier League football, for that little lot I was being billed €90 per month, perhaps you could share how much Cabo charge for subscription channels? in HD please.

& even though we're talking about internet I still think that sitting watching Sky falls into your illegal category, or perhaps not in this case as you yourself do it, which I presume makes it different?

& it may interest you to know that between the hours of 9pm till midnight in the USA Netflix accounts for 30% or total national broadband use, subscribing to it on one's SmartTV isn't remotely legal, & a whole lot better to enjoy with your seafood rice than 3 hours of Sky News

Earlier this year I had a business contact from one of the new smaller providers of high speed internet in the UK.
Their market is rural areas with no fibre optic, cable and broadband.
Because of their success in the UK they started looking at potential markets in the EU, Spain , Portugal and France being obvious ones.
As part of their market research they identified the UK expat market as being of significant size and potential influenced no doubt by what they had learned of the changes in UK TV reception outside of the UK.
Being a reputable company they investigated the legal aspects and discovered that " un licensed re broadcasting of live TV outside of the UK " was illegal and as they rely on government contracts they have shelved the idea for the time being.
We are too busy watching on Cabo (some in HD ) many of the progs we watch in the UK ( Cabo is usually ahead of some of the UK sat channels ) to worry about the subsciption channels, HD or otherwise.
We do not have a Sky box in PT.

It is around 40 euros for 120 channels, wifi, phone with discounts on calls within PT and Overseas.

We upgraded to their " one box " which in addition to wifi etc allows us to watch progs up to 7 days after they were broadcast, and record in the same way Sky plus works.
Fot those is desperate need, ITV is proposing an internet accessed European service on subscription and the first progs offered Corrie and Emmerdale. nothing like knowing your audience.

If you can go without your soaps, X-factor and Strictly you can use Skyeuropetv (not part of SKY group) and get all the SKY channels you need (SKY1, SKY2, SKY Atlantic, Dave, Watch, all the documentaries, Sky News, Sky Sports News and Racing Channel) etc for £27 per month -just need a Sky box plus satellite. SKY Atlantic in particular is a brilliant channel and TV without soaps, X Factor, Strictly etc is UTOPIA!!!!!!. All the decent things on BBC like Ripper Street, QI etc end up on Watch or Dave anyway.

You can top up Sky Sports or Movies if you wish for extra.

Nothing at all - they are a perfectly legitimate company with the rights to distribute Sky throughout Europe. SkyBSB only have the broadcasting rights for the UK and Ireland.
