New v recovered sofas

Post by Alison »

We are looking at options for renewing the sofas in our villa:
- buy new in England and ship out to the Algarve
- buy new in Portugal
- recover the old sofas which are of good structural quality, just the material needs replacing.

For recovering we have had a recommendation and what seems a reasonable quote from Rochate in Portimao.

For new sofas sourced in Portugal through Ma Maison in Lagoa, we've had what seems to be an expensive quote although the quality appears to be good.

Anyone had any experience of either of these companies?

Hi Alison
I found it much cheaper to buy new and used Algarve removals I bought a lovely L shaped
leather sofa , 5 years on and its still like new from harveys at the time found Portugal
expensive , lots of good deals in the uk, im a upholsterer and I couldn't compete but I
knew what was made well and would last, hope that's of some use and good luck.

Hi Alison,

Take a look at these sofas, great quality, a good choice of styles and price ranges.

We decided that there was nothing reasonable at a decent price, in the Algarve, so we have bought a new leather 5 seater corner unit in the UK and are having it shipped out by Algarve Removals.

SO....we have a 2nd hand leather corner unit for sale in February....anybody interested???

There is a place that recovers sofas with some bargain materials : it's on the road from Silves to Pocco Barreta , almost under the bridge, about 2 kms from Silves. I can give more precise directions of required. Very helpful chap, but it seems to depend on how many cushions you have, as these can be quite expensive.
Best Portuguese furniture shop we found was the one in Silves , Moveis Mourinho, ....but in the end we did what Bruce did....bought at M&S ( their 30% off offer ) & had then shipped out by Algarve Removals.

Thanks for the info on the Silves company Geoff - something to look at another time.

Update: we went with Rochate, of Pinto and Rochate in Portimao in the end as we liked the original structure of our old sofa and hoped it was good enough quality to be worth recovering. Time will tell on that front but we are very pleased with the result - they've done a super job with all the cushions, zips attaching cushions to the back frame, piping round the arms etc. Definitely recommend using these people.
