Hampshirerich's Restaurants

Post by HampshireRich »

Well I'm back after 2 weeks of relaxation, bit of rain and lots of hot sunshine.

These are the restaurants we visited with comments:

Martin's Grill - an old family favourite - went twice - never disappoints - cataplana, lamb chops, etc all suberbly cooked.
Maximes - went once - would have gone twice but shut on Wednesday - lovely restaurant - had the battered salted cod - was supreme.
Mamma Mia's - another family favourite - great fun there - great pizzas, pastas etc
Tia Ilda - went once - sea-view seat - lovely piri-piri - good value and good service
Elliots - another favourite - beautifully cooked Monkfish dish
Vila Nova - went for the first time and went back! - was amazing food - sirloin steak "Portuguese" style, roast leg lamb, black bass - all superb and service was first class.
Stone Steak - the family favourite - superb as always.
Lanterna Velha - last nights's meal - almost forgot about this place - never be hungry after eating here - portions are very generous - cordon bleu was brilliant

Maybe because it was a bit quieter but service was good in all and the food was cooked to perfection.

Tried Happy's twice and was told to go away - empty tables booked for later and no effort to accomodate - won't try again!

All sound good

We tried villa Medici, it was superb. Treated to a Scropinio , absolutely gorgeous.
Chef Antonio - excellent service and food good value 40 euro for 2 x 2 courses with wine and coffee
We also tried happys and experienced the same, an empty restaurant but turned away. Will give another go as we love it but disappointed with Libby's attitude

It's pretty well known by CVO regs that you need to book Happys in advance. If there are empty tables it's usually because Libby has reservations a bit later, other than much later in the evening.

Not had one in Carvoeiro but I had a scropinio cocktail in Sicily don't know if it's the same thing - delicious and refreshing.

A Scropinio as served at Villa Medici :D
It's lemon ice cream, vodka & prosecco all whisked up and served in a chilled champagne flute. Gorgeous. 8)
