Villages like CVO

Post by Lotte »

Hi Guys,

I didnt really know where to post this topic, so if its in the wrong section, I apologise!!

We have been coming to CVO now, at least once a year, for well over 15 years, & we obviously love the place!! - During that time, we have also been to lots of other places in Europe, and whilst we have had some great holidays in other destinations, nothing ever really seems to match up to CVO!!

But just every now & again you do fancy a change - so does anyone out there, know of any 'small CVO type villages'!! - in Mainland Spain, Majorca, Menorca, Canaries, Greece, Crete, etc etc etc????

Whilst we would never fall out of love with the village - it is nice to sample other areas, & whilst we have visited all the 'usual' holiday destinations, we are looking for somewhere that has some / all of the attributes of CVO!! (It would also be nice to go somewhere, where I could go into the sea & not come out in a block of ice!!!)

Can anyone offer any advice on any other areas that may suit?

Thanks :D :D

have you been to the Amalfi coast? Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, some great mountainside roads, great little villages, beaches scattered around, lovely; plus of course all the delicious Italian cooking & wines, 8)

There are some lovely places on Majorca, Soller, Andratx and the lovely old town of Pollensa.

Lerici in Northern Italy - beautiful Italian village, beaches, ancient castles, posh and not so posh hotels, apartment rentals etc - even a golf course nearby.

This will give you the idea

One or two of the Greek islands might fit the bill. Not the crazy teenage places but the quiet parts of Corfu or Paros - several others to choose.

Sanur ( Bali ) can hardly be called a village anymore it iis just like any resort town.
CVO because of it topography is still safe from the over development that plagues so many resorts .
Gumbet next to Bodrum was a small village with a few boat yards when we first went there, 3 years late it was unrecognisable.
I would look for small hllly villages with poor communications and hope that the mass market does not find them.
In the Algarve. Burgau and Selima still have a little of their orignal charm left.

Scala, Kefalonia is an ideal CVO replacement. Nice beach area , plenty of great Tavernas, no rowdy bars or gangs of yobs.

Why break the habit there are many villages by the sea in Algarve, such as Ferragudo, Burgau, Salema where you still get the Portuguese ambience, food, freindliness etc :D

Just repeating another post but Pollensa in Majorca is lovely and the very nearby Puerto Pollensa , nice restaurants and bars and a lovely sea front where you can walk. Beach here is really good and water lovely and warm. We went here for quite a few years until we fancied a change and found Carvoeiro 8)
