Lawyer for selling a villa

Post by Graham »

Hi all - finally got a decent (ish) offer on my villa - however, I am being quoted 1% for the legal work in selling (it is offshore so surely just transfer of shares?)

I know I can do it for about 20% of this price in the UK. Am I being ripped off (again!) by the Portuguese legal system or is this normal

Any recommendation of a fair priced lawyer appreciated!

I use this lady & have found her to be very professional. Can't comment on price.

Think you will find that as seller you do not need a lawyer providing you can provide all the papers required by the vendors lawyer and that you are available to sign the sale documents in person.
Might need someone like Soverign to help with the payment of capital gains, (if you are lucky enough to be in that situation )

We also use Manuel and ditto Bruce's recommendation. Handy office too as it is in a block beside the Lidl (I think) supermarket.

We use Paulo Mendes and have found him to be efficient and reasonably priced. His office is on the out-road a bit further up from the Chinese Shop.

way back in about 2001 thought we would save money by going to the lawyer who charged 1% for the purchase of a piece of land rather than the lawyer that charged 1.5%. Worst thing we could have done to save money. I think he is based in the out road, but fortunately no one has mentioned him so will not name him. 1% seems fair based on our original quote. You are lucky to have a sale. Get it concluded ASAP.

You've been offered at least 2 recommendations.
You lose nothing by checking them out, and then making an informed decision.
