2012 Xmas & New year

Post by AlanV »

Hi all - never posted before but have used site for last 2 years to keep informed about current happenings in Carvoeiro

Have apartment in Monte Dourado & 4 of us are coming over on 20th December for a month

Xmas is sorted - Going to Ma-Ja's - No problem

But New Year (7 of us ?) - trying to find place to eat & enjoy seeing in the New year with hopefully some entertainment

Have done Ele & Ela + A Vela in the past - both fantastic - But this year we are not there earlier to visit places & sort out booking

Considering Taste t(had 2 great meals there last year) but Nicola & Ciprian are not yet sure what they will be doing

Any suggestions - would love to do A Vela again but having difficulty finding out if they are going to be open for the New Year & if there will be the usual entertainment they lay on. Would consider anywhere but would love some form of entertainment

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Alan & Linda
(Soon to retire to Carvoeiro for Winter if all goes to plan (as if !))

PS - Not adding any smilies cause I dont want to be shouted at ? :!:

Hi Alan. I have been keeping an eye on this post hoping for some information. I have been to CVO several times in June, we love the place so much we have decided to spend New Year in this beautiful part of The World. Like you, I am not after a wild party, just nice food, good company and maybe a little entertainment. I will keep a check and if I hear anything I'll let you know. Who knows, we may see you for a beer

Hi Lamby

Would love to meet up - Its amazing how much of a problem New Year is in Carvoeiro

We have spent some very happy times waiting on the beach for non existent fireworks to show up
(It used to be a great show - its a fabulous backdrop for fireworks - sent up of the top of the cliffs)

Also - Most of the resturants do not decide if they are opening until the last minute (Depends on what sort of year they have had)
If they have had a good year they usually close & bugger off to enjoy their own New Year celebrations (Dont blame 'em)

Have had great New Years in A Vela & Ele & Ella but as yet still no confirmation that they will be open
Taste also looks promising but - as yet - do not intend to lay on any entertainment

Here's hoping that someone lucky enough to be holying there for the summer will pop in to the resturants & find out whats
happening for New Year & let us know ??? :?:

Maybee some of them may even consider coming back for the New Year & join us for a Cristal in Hemingways

Hi Alan. My "contacts" in CVO, including Bob at Harrys Bar, all say the same as what you have pretty much said. No-one knows for sure who or what will be open, it is a case of researching while in town prior to New Year's Eve and determining the best place. We arrive 27.12.12, a week after you, so I will be expecting you to have all the answers by the time I get there!!! If not, I'll four nights enjoying doing some research

Jailhouse usually organise a chinese meal ( the one at the top on the left) but its a bit early....but the Jailhouse is good at midnight!
Last year we went to Fim de Mondo in Feraguedo and then saw the fireworks ( or, rather, the firework) at Portimao....bit of a literal damp squib.....but a good view from the church. Have heard that Punto Romano in Silves is good fun.

Thank you for the comment Pato. As in previous years we are open every day over the festive period including Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. Christmas Day has never been a problem for us as we are always fully booked, however New Year's Eve is always a bit of a strange one. We have never had live music before because we have found that people want to come and have a nice meal and then go off and watch the fireworks or bring in the New Year elsewhere. However if there are enough people interested then it is certainly something we would consider.

Can't believe we are talking Christmas and New Year when the sun is shining - enjoy the summer xxx :D
