Availability of Generic Lipitor and price of 40 mg and 80 m

Hi

does anyone know if Generic Lipitor is now available in Carvoeiro Chemist and what are the prices of same
for example 20 mg, 40 mg 80 mg
also if known what price are the equivalent lipitor now

Lipitor is available here but may be known by the generic name of Atorvastatin. Price not known but in general pharmaceuticals are cheaper here than in U.K.

Atorvastatin is the Drug name but I understand lipitor patent has now expired and there is a new generic brand of Atorvastatin
available which is cheaper than the Lipitor branded Atorvastatin
any insights ? or prices ??

I did say pharmaceuticals are generally cheaper in Portugal.

Your statin may well be made in Spain or Portugal under a different name which is why it is best to ask for the generic.

can't help you with exact prices but I think the drug is called Zarator here, I got it in the Carvoeiro chemist but needed a prescription for the first dose, thereafter you can just take the packet in for repeats;
from memory it's about €40 for a box of 50 x 20mg

I get Sinvastatina from the chemist. it costs me 74 cents with prescription for a box of sixty 20mg .

Without prescription it cost 1.59

So the estimates are somewhere between € 0.74 and € 40 !! Quite a difference

I would suggest taking my advice if you really want to know

but I suppose the point is that LIPITOR is the original brand name for the drug Atorvastatin

and the Lipitor brand of Atorvastatin has now gone out of patent

There is one new licenced manufacturer of Atorvastatin now only in last couple of months and this new generic grand of Atorvastatin is
cheaper than Lipitor - it is on sale in UK and i was wondering is it on sale now in POrtugal and if so the price

Personally I would not touch them with a barge pole. Statins seem to be the current favourite with many GPS, who seem to disregard the side effects. There are other safer ways of reducing cholesterol. However, as with all drugs you need to way up the benefits v risks and decide what is best for you.

I know what I am taking - have been on the Lipitor for about 6 years now, never felt better, cholestrol well under control
no aches or pains no problems with muscles, fit as a fiddle, just want to cut the cost down thats all
tried other ways of keeping the cholestrol down but they threw me out of the convent after a week
