Wedding in Carvoeiro
Wedding in Carvoeiro
Hi All,
I am new to this forum but have been visiting Carvoeiro for the last 5 years, my fiance and I love it so much that we are getting married there next June!
We are hoping to be able to get married in Carvoeiro Church and we have already booked our reception venue in Silves but ideally what we would love to do is have everyone stroll to a local cafe/restaurant directly after the church service for a coffee/ice cream and to chill out before heading to Silves. Can anyone recommend any good places to go for this within walking distance of the Church?
Thanks!!
Lou

Re: Wedding in Carvoeiro
Our daughter was married this May in Alvor, She had planned to get married in Carvoeiro Church but this was not possible. But she had a beautiful wedding in a beautiful church at Alvor. We had both the civil and religious ceremony in one, as you would in the Catholic church here in England. Dont let any wedding planner tell you this is not possible and that you will have to have a separate civil ceremony either earlier in the day or even here in England before you leave for Portugal. Our daughter has an international marriage certificate in English.
Fr Marques speaks English and was very helpul, but we took our own Parish Priest with us and he performed the ceremony We did use a Portugese Solicitor who spoke English and he was marvellous, we could not have managed without him.
We used lots of people local to Carvoeiro. -- Caterer - At. Bom Bom resturant They were fantastic.
Amy. Swimming instructor/ baby sitter. She did a wonderful job of looking after our 3 year old grandson.
We used a tranfer company for all transport to Alvor and back there were 23 adults +2 babies.
If you are thinking of using a wedding planner, please have a word before you hire one.I am sure there are many other things/tips we could pass on, please just ask.

Thanks so much for your help! It is much appreciated!
Can I ask why your Daughter was unable to get married in Carvoeiro Church? I have never seen a wedding there before but I was hoping as with most Churches it would be possible
Thanks again for all the tips! Lou x

Re: Wedding in Carvoeiro
The church in Carvoeiro at the moment is undergoing some modernisation, which I believe has to be done as and when the money is available. So the church could have had scaffolding up.
I also believe Fr. Nunes will not perform weddings there, but we were lead to believe that if we brought our own priest we could use the church, but this was not to be. There is an old thread about Carvoeiro church.
Are you doing all your own planning or have you engaged a wedding planner. (We are not wedding Planners after business I have a serious reason for asking this question)

Thanks for your help and info on the church, it sounds like it may prove difficult for us to have a wedding service there.
We do have a wedding planner as we both lead very busy lives and so the organising proved difficult for us, do you have a bad experience of wedding planners? We are very early on in the process at the moment and so have not really started paying for services etc yet.
Really appreciate any advice,
Thanks again

Try www.yourportugalwedding.com, it's a kind of directory of suppliers with all kinds of info and reviews. Nickie who runs it is a fantastic wedding photographer working here and hopefully you will find everything you need.

Weddings are a very special day in your lifes, and it has to be right, for you and your groom, as well as all the guests that will travel to celebrate, A Wedding Planner, I feel is important, the best have contracts which work both ways, so it is important that they get it spot on, for your special day.
If you cannot use the Church, their are some lovely beach venues in the area, and you can use a registrar to do the service,(it is all in Portuguese, but there are translators available, at a cost) but make sure the venue has a licence to do so.Another reason for a Planner they will check all this for you.I have seen a reply from another post who it seems have had a very sad experience using a planner, I do not know who it was, but if contracts are in place and they are above board, they will be a God send.
If you need any help or contacts ,please feel free to contact me via this forum, Good Luck

I'm a wedding over-celebrant, which is why I don't get invited to many. I hope you have a lovely day.
