SIXT car hire
hello
got a message from SIXT stating that from April 1st the pick up location at Faro is now off airport. Looking at the map provided on their website it seems that the location is now on the N125....not even on the Airport road (N-125-10 I think its called ). This seems a long way out if you have to leave people at the airport to come back and pick up.
Can anyone confirm that where I'm thinking of is correct please. Much appreciated.

Re: SIXT car hire
Surely Sixt will do a courtesy bus from the airport on your arrival to their car hire depot for you and your party & same on your departure. The majority of off airport car hire companies have this service for their clients. Does it not mention anything about courtesy bus on their message? I would email them and ask.
I have just been on their website and this is the info when you arrive at airport, you can also download the map where sixt is. Is this the same place as they messaged you?
http://www.sixt.co.uk/car-hire/portugal ... o-airport/ click on location plan & how to find us & also shuttle info,

Re: SIXT car hire
Fatscholes...you are spot on and its a real pain in the arse....miles out (they do provide a bus) but it takes ages to get back to the airport, not good, cancel and book with a n other
Re: SIXT car hire
With the planned changes at the airport and less parking space and access problems to P4 I would not be surprised to see more companies going "off airport "
Re: SIXT car hire
EMM off airport is one thing, SIXT is nearly off Algarve!

Re: SIXT car hire
thanks CM
i think what you're saying is that... I'm exactly right in where I think this is now situated!
Not sure if I'll go through the hassle of re-booking but it certainly means that we can brace ourselves for the bus journey and getting the 3 under 4s onto the bus with all the luggage (inc buggies) prior to landing!
many thanks all

Re: SIXT car hire
EMM, I've not experienced any access problems to P4. In fact when returning to the airport the new P4 is easier to get to than the old one was. The walk to/from the terminal building is about the same as the old one was but obviously it is a bit further from arrivals (but nearer to departures so win some lose some).EMM wrote:access problems to P4"
I agree that the SixT compund seems too far away - I would always go for a company with on airport collection and return. If you miss your flight you only have yourself to blame whereas with an off-airport return and shuttle bus you are adding an unknown delay that is beyond your control.
Re: SIXT car hire
I agree that since it opened access has not been a real problem, but just wait until it get really busy and cars are queuing on the roundabout to get in. We had a 10 min wait a few weeks ago because a car without a tag got into the entrance and we all had to back up to let them out.
Re: SIXT car hire
The new P4 is good in my opinion but apparently the entry scanner has had problems differentiating between 0nes and I's on number plates resulting in some cars not being allowed in. One mate who had the problem dumped the car in the short term car park and advised the rental company laterEMM wrote:I agree that since it opened access has not been a real problem, but just wait until it get really busy and cars are queuing on the roundabout to get in.
