There always people who will fly a kite, and hope to steal a deal.

Dont get angry.....just tell them...in the nicest and politest way to "piss off"

The market is holding up very well this year.....there is no need for panicky discounting.....certainly not yet!!

If you are doing your own marketing, and doing so badly......I suggest that you go to one of the recognised letting agents. It may cost you 10 or 15% on your rentals......but you'll be well ahead on the figures you are quoting.

One thing.....DONT be pushed into doing a season long deal with one of the down market holiday companies.
You will get a lousy rate, they put big demands on you, and in all liklihood..... your house will get trashed.

Hello Matoserrao99, I understand where you are coming from, property letting in what is supposed to be an upmarket resort and buying second hand stuff are totally different. You expect offers when selling second hand items, not on private property lets unless you choose to offer discounts.

I know your villa and have stayed there it is beautiful and you offer some truly excellent add ons that I've not received in a rented property before in Carveoiro. The support and help you and your wife gave to my seriously ill mother was incredible.

What I find insulting is the language used by someone on this forum towards you when that person clearly knows nothing about you or who you are. I find this person offensive.

Be aware you should not buy second hand air conditioning units as moving such items can result in problems.

Also be aware that there are some people in europe who are attempting to find beautiful villa's like yours for half price and then sub letting them. You would not wish to see the results of this.

Good luck with your further rentals. I have forwarded your villa details to a golf club in Ascot who are looking for villa's in the Algarve in September for a party 12. Don't worry they won't make offers they are gunuine people expecting to pay a fair price for their holiday

It depends. If you start cutting your margins to the bone, then it only takes someone leaving the aircon on full blast 24/7, breaking stuff etc., and your losing money. Dare I say that, in some instances, the people who try to get these special deals are the ones who might abuse the place?
Agreed. There will always be people who try it on. There are also those who will make ridiculous claims after the holiday and threaten court action to get a repayment. Just don't play their games.
I know of one case where the client had a good late availability discount and then made spurious claims on return (not whilst there) asking for the full rental repayment. When this was refused they went to court and asked for full rental, travelling, insurance and other expenses. The judge threw it out and made them pay court and mileage costs to the villa owner. He objected to this and said he should not have to pay mileage as the villa owners could have hitch hiked to the court!

Point taken, comprehensive car insurance is there for a similar reason but you always come away with a loss, if only because of the inconvenience.

aldo, don't know who you are but I'm real and not who you have suggested. I guess you like to try and insult genuine people. Do you rent a property out? Maybe if you were a decent person I could have suggested your property too, and helped you out with a few euros. Somehow though I don't think you are likely to be a pleasant and helpful person.

You need to be a little more careful about what you say regarding people and things you know nothing about. You don't know who I am or what I am!

Sorry but just to answer your original question " what is going on ?? " it sounds as if you may not be aware that there is a financial crisis going on and people are having to look for the cheapest deal possible - rather than be insulted try some negotiation.

I have just recently sold a property in the Algarve and the buyers originally offered what you would say was an insulting offer but I could understand that they were obviously trying to get the best deal possible, so after going back and forth with counter offers we came to agreement that suited both parties. In my opinion it is the only way to go.

I guess what I am trying to say is don't take it personally it will be happening more and more, you will find you may have to take time to come to a compromise or you will be missing out on a lot of business

We've had people asking for silly (well, I thought they were silly) deals on our Carvoeiro apartment but I don't think they're insulting, a bit cheeky maybe, I don't accept but offer something that I think's a bit more realistic & if they agree deal done, if not move on. You can't blame a person for trying.
