Millenium Free Bank Transfers from the UK

The company I use are not regulated, and I asked this before I signed up with them. As I regularly transfer relatively small amounts and they do not charge for this service I felt the benefits outwayed the risks. However, I have a Millennium account, as as free transfers can now be made via the banks I will be reviewing my transfer method.

Just got my statement through - the £10 I transferred on 10th January was done at a rate of 1.187.

I am sure that the clients of " Crown Currency " where the owners are now under criminal investigation has wished that they could have used this service.
Is there any FX company that guarentees clients funds ??

fmm - just for information - did you know that Millennium offer on-line banking in English? You just need to ask at the branch when you are there next.
It seems as secure as UK online banking, and means you could have checked your transfer ages ago.

I did set it up once but I think it was all in Portuguese then so I really ought to do it again.
There is so little movement on th account that I have never bothered much before. However, it is a good idea now that I am going to use it as my source for cash when I am in Portugal (always used Nationwide in the past) so thanks for the reminder!

I have and use the on-line banking with Millennium and can check the account, make payments and transfers, has always worked well for me.

Our Millennium account is more user friendly than our First Direct site.

Once you're up and running just click 'Individuals'. If its not immediately in English then click 'English' on the Home Page and away you go. The set up is simple to do too.

I transferred my mortgage payment this month for the first time using this HSBC/Millennium transfer service and got 3 cents better per € than my previous arrangement. Might not seem a lot but that will pay for a meal next time we're over.

Well done superbocker, all the extra cents count. I tried my first transfer today, only £50 for testing purposes, hopefully everything goes through without a hitch. Took a screenshot of transaction just in case there are problems.
Only thing I will say about the millennium website having an English translation which is great. I found that if you want to transfer money from your millennium account to another account is a bit daunting, the info and procedure to register for this with a text acknowledgment for transfer of funds is only in Portuguese which can be a bit stressfull. If you do try to go through the SMS method (text) thing it won't take a UK phone number(digits too long for box) Portuguese numbers mobile or landline are ok.

I'm sure you'll be fine. The thing I like about it is that both institutions are well established. Banking with both either side, means I can hold someone accountable if there's a problem.

I'm sure that its just a sound way of Millennium getting the business that others have been taking for years and I don't have a problem with that as they're fair with us.

We have been doing online transfers from our Millennium account to other accounts (millennium and other banks) for several years, in English and using an English mobile number. Unfortunately we set it up so long ago that I cant remember how we did it though I suspect it was in the CVO branch. We definitely rang their online helpline at one point when we had a problem, and they were very helpful. When you do the transfer you are also able to send an email or text to a third party notifying them, if you need to. Suggest you investigate further Polli62. BTW we dont speak Portuguese!

Carolyn we actually asked at the Millennium re registering the UK phone numbers (either landline or mobile) and the cashier did say that the box wasn't big enough to take all the digits, so we just registered our portuguese number. Around 7 yrs ago you just had to put in your multichannel number/keyword to verify a transaction, but now its changed to sms or the card reader, I suppose its all about better security using this method as our UK bank has the same procedure.

Superbocker , my £50 test transaction to Millenium was sucessful, sent it Thursday morning and was in bank Saturday morning. The rate given was 1.1715 so I'm quite please with that.

I regularly make transfers, admittedly so far to another Millennium account, and have no problems. You can set up 'frequent' transfer details so it retains their details. The SMS message comes to my UK mobile, so it is possible, think I did it by phone. Will try a test payment through HSBC.

Polli, glad the transfer is all sorted, as for the on line account, it's the same now as you described, just access code (or password to you and me) plus 3 random digits from your pass number.

I use it all the time now, but if in any doubt, go see Rebecca or Isabel in the Bank and they'll sort you out. SB

I have a Banif account in Portugal and they have just opened a branch in London. They've written to offer free transfers whatever the amount.
