What is happening to our society?
Re: What is happening to our society?
I have been a member of the forum for a while but do not post. I like to read what others have to say about Carvoeiro and find the forum very helpful on matters that I might need assistance with. My husband, daughter and myself work very hard with our business and when we spend time in Carvoeiro it is a well deserved rest and always enjoy it. I do not know any of the members personally but having read lots of posts from the regulars and they all seem to be very nice people who are willing to help. I cannot understand why people have to make rude comments about people who they don't even know. I would have thought that the forum was there for information and to get to know people - not fall out with them.

I agree with you, but it always seems to be the same people just laying into anything about Carvoeiro, not just the people but the restaurants/bars etc, like the comment about smilers being downmarket, Geradline is a veru good business woman and why start putting her business down because she made a comment in the local newspaper.
I just think it's time for people who live there to start fighting back and making more comment for Carvoeiro and not againest. I am for Carvoeiro.....................and I hope others are that use this forum.

I do not know what or where you are reading posts from regular members of this forum that "put Carvoeiro down" as you say. Having read back through all of your posts so far, you have not once had anything good to say - all you have done is moan about other people. The regular posters on this form love Carvoeiro and spend a lots of time and effort protecting its reputation and spelling out the delights of the area. As with all areas in the world, and all forums, opinions of what is good differs and people have the right to say what they like and what they do not. Carvoeiro must get a large proportion of its income from tourism and therefore it makes not difference whether you live there permanently, own property out there or a holidaymaker - all views are welcome. Those who slag off Carvoeiro get short thrift on this site.BOBG wrote:Glenhayl

The regular posters on this site are open about who they are and their relationship with the village - you can look at my profile and see where I come from, what my job is and my hobbies - BOBG - we cannot say the same about you! You can look at my previous posts and see where I stay, where I go and how much I love this village - BOBG - we cannot say the same about you!
So as I have challenged the previous newbie (bulldodge) who came here causing problems, I will challenge you BOBG - who are you, where do you live, what's your relationship with the village? When are you going to say something good about Carvoeiro? Please prove me wrong, but you seem like another bulldodge - someone who wants to destroy this forum for whatever personal reasons you have against it.
Come clean, or shut up and go away!
Re: What is happening to our society?
I am definately for Carvoeiro and would live there if it wasn't for my committments here. I always enjoy the restaurants, bars etc. and have not come across anyone to say a bad thing about it. Unfortunately things change and with regards to the square, whether we like it or not accept that fact that we are stuck with something that has changed. Now I enjoy watching the chaos with the traffic and part of the my fun is wondering where I am going to park. Make the most of what is happening whether you agree or not. Stop bickering and enjoy this tlovely place. I come to relax and what better place to do that.

Blimey, Glenhayl , no posts since October 2009 and now two in one day? I fear BOGB may have stepped on the tail of a tiger!
btw, I love sitting in Metabixo and watching the traffic knocking over the posts in the Square. As for parking . . . I like a challenge!

picking on yet another forum member Mr Crane........................oh sorry you don't do that kind of thing.
Re: What is happening to our society?
BOBG I think that you are getting ultra sensitve.
My personal view is that given its location and the improvements to Carvoeiro Smilers is not taking full advantage of its business opportunities.
Look at The Grand cafe and its neighbours they appear to be thriving in the new square and soon there will be another cafe.
Customers are prepared to pay premium prices to eat and drink at these locations.
Smilers too could take better advantage of those attracted to the improved square ( that are here to stay ) but obviously its her business and she decides what market she wants to appeal to.
Its not a place I like or take anyone staying with us or recommend for guests but its just an opinion not an attack.
Agreeing with the changes " Is NOT laying into carvoeiro ". Nor are views as to how business can react to the changing tourist market. Again a personal view but I think that the days of mass UK tourism to countries such as Portugal are over for a while and that Carvoeiro will have to attract a more selective and wider range of nationalities.
Debate and change are what keep places alive, complacency leads to stagnation and decline.

Re: What is happening to our society?
With Carvoeiro being such a quiet little village the parking and traffic is the highlight of the day for me. Obviously we have a similar sense of humour.
That's 3 posts don't upset me I could be on here all day
