Sorry can't share such valuable information, if you've got someone who's good you want to keep them not share them!

What an interesting response...on so many levels.

First, if I find someone good and I like them, I want them to do well and be successful.
Second, this is extraordinarily selfish. It isn't like you use a gardener for 40 hours/week.
Third, karma is a bitch.

Smile, we have someone but I am not so happy with this person so can't recommend them. We pay a rate of 140 EUR/month for weekly visits of 3 hours. This covers trimming, weeding (when he is reminded), and grass cutting. It also includes basic maintenance items like spraying and fertilizing though we pay for all supplies.

There you go Globetrotter, you've got someone but you don't rate them! I have had three gardeners in 6 years - the first two were a bit like yours - OK but not very good. Now I have a star, pay him significantly more than the rate you quote and have no desire to lose him or share him with more people than he currently works for. He can only work 40 hours a week or 13/14 gardens weather permitting. I need him on Thursday mornings (changeover day) so he can only have one customer in that slot.

Selfish maybe, commercially astute possibly, realistic definitely.

No offence intended Smile - wish you every success, be prepared to pay more for quality.

Sorry, still don't agree. I wouldn't be doing Smile any favors by recommending my gardener...and he is going to lose some time with me soon. We got him when we got the house and have been too inattentive to hire someone else. But the thing is, when I decide to make my move, I know there are people out there who I can count on to give references. It's not all about them and that makes a difference.

*shrug* I have no desire to help out those with information who don't pay it forward.

I guess we just have a basic difference in philosophy.

Talking of philosophy are you buddhist? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this comment but I suspect it's not very polite and possibly your reaction is a "bit over the top" considering the topic.

Hopefully the buddhist members of the forum won't be offended either!

To be honest, Widge, if you don't want to share, then it is probably better not to gloat.

One of the points of this forum is to share information.

OP - When I have struggled for in country assistance, Mini g on here has been invaluable in recommending people and services. May be worth sending him a PM.
