For a cheap meal with a difference try Escondidino (Casa do Pasta!) which is at the back of Quinta do Paraiso. It's a "bums on seats" place. Fixed meal with wine of beer for around €8 a head. Not everyone's choice but probably cheaper than eating in. Another one we use (we are cheapskates) is O Branco, which is a bit further on from Escondidino. It's very popular with the Portuguese locals, the men stop for a drink or two after work and the food is pretty good, if basic.

Marisqueira "specials" usually include Golden Bream, Sea Bass and Red Snapper.
It is still a tourist restaurant although many local business people go there for lunch (and portuguese families in the evenings).

I think that A Fonte is possibly more traditional (right at the bottom of the in road, up the steps on the right hand side). Generally, however, the more traditional restaurants are not in Carvoeiro itself.

And us. The staff are nice as well. Do they run the little takeaway a few steps down?

I'll second that. We always make a point of eating there at least twice per visit. Even when we don't stay in Carvoeiro, we drive there for lunch if at all possible. Last time was an hour and a half each way!
