mozzies

Post by snaj1 »

Hi,
We're returning to sesmarias in a next week and staying near Gramacho.
Can anyone advise if the mozzies will be a problem around here?

Thanks

Not sure about where you're staying Snaj1...but when Im out there (Carvoeiro) I always eat marmite on toast for breakfast (Mike,Chislehurst recommended it)..and it works :)
Its something to do with the yeast coming through the pores of your skin that the mozzies don't like....
Anyway it works for me
Happy holidays
p.s. if you don't like marmite maybe yeast tablets will work?

Thanks for that
Love Marmite so thats not a problem. We're staying in a villa which overlooks countryside (across the road from the water tower)
The concern about the mozzies because we have a toddler and whether we would be able
to sit out in the evenings

I know that I will regret saying this and will no doubt be eaten alive over the next few days, but I have been coming to Cvo for the past 4 years, never use mosquito repellant either on me or in the apartment and neither I nor my guests have been bitten by anything. One of the reasons why I love this place.

We have been out here for four weeks and i think between the four of us, we have three bites.
doesn't seem to be too much of a problem this year.

Marmite - you either love it or hate it. Isn't it the same for mozzies!!

I always get bitten by mozzies, savagely in some places such as Poco Partido 5 years ago, but have successfully fought them off for the last few years by spraying myself with insect repellant in the evening, using those plug in devices (which I'm not keen on but they work) in the bedroom and more recently, burning citronella candles.

When I was in the area 10 days ago, I used the citronella candles and although I thought they were supposed to repel mozzies, they attracted them and then they drowned - perfect.

Thanks for all the responses.
We're going to take everything, marmite included.
I'm hoping the copious amounts of red wine I drink might keep them off as well.

Avon Skin so Soft keeps them away. As a sufferer of 23 bites one year, I no longer worry when I use this. Have a great holiday. :)

I have two-pronged protection system. One is Skin So Soft and the other is . . . . Sharen! Given the choice of biting her or me the mozzies, more often than not, bite her! :P
