Can someone suggest the best restaurant wine list in or around CVO ? I consider value for money, a wide range and some good top notch choices as being the three main criteria.
For starters how about the following contenders
Leao de Porches - good range with a few rarer to find bottles
Elle & Ela's - shorter list but some nice upmarket choices
Rei de Praias - excellent whites
O Baradas is on the "old" road to Silves.
If, however, you're taking the new dual carriageway from Lagoa to the Motorway, come off at the exit marked Palmeirinha (sp?) and swing round underneath the new road, turn right and a few yards along, big gates, signed and quite easy to find. Specializing in meat from Northern Portugal, its a carnivore's delight although they do have one or two fish alternatives.
Island Cafe has a really good wine list with wines from different countries as well as Portugal if you fancy a change. Excellent food too so you can't go wrong.
I'm just a Philistine - as long as it's red I enjoy it! I normally drink the house wine and always find it acceptable.
Having said that, I spent a recent weekend in Paris where they served the red wine cold. Not the same, somehow.

Was in Oxford about a month ago. Ordered a bottle of red with my evening meal and the waiter took it to me in a bucket of ice oh dear. I never complained though but probably should have but it was room service and I couldn't be bothered debating the issue. I left it for a while before drinking it slightly chilled, it's just not the same
According to the Wine Doctor, the correct temperature for serving reds is 14 - 18 C, depending on body. So I guess in a warm climate some chilling is in order, providing you can wait

Ask for Pedro the waiter, he has phenomenal wine knowledge and is well versed in most international selections as well!
