Shock Electric Bill

Post by maccasa »

Just got a Bill from EDP for the period 5 Nov until 5th Jan - I was €423! Considering our normal 2 mth bill is 150-200, this was a real surprise, especially as the place was empty since 7th Nov! then I noticed that it's an ESTIMATED reading - how could they estimate it at double our usual consumption!!

Anyone tell me of an e mail I can contact the billing dept. on - other than the usual edp.pt

Last time I had a proble getting my online reading accepted I phoned the number on the bill 808505505 and the agent I spoke to was most helpful. If you can get a reading you could ask for the estimated bill to be cancelled and for a new one to be issued using the reading.

We also had a larger bill than normal, when questioned was told higher IVA, higher charges and an annual reconciliation as we had not paid enough in the summer when we had estimated bills.

If you still have a Fiscal rep let them earn their money and ask them to sort it....mine does :P

Agree with EMM about why the bill is so high this time, ours for the restaurant was double what we paid before even when I submitted an actual reading!

You can submit a meter reading on-line

http://www.edp.pt/pt/particulares/apoio ... turas.aspx

It's in Portuguese but the information you require is all on your bill.

It's tricky if you are not living here but the 2nd page of your bill, top right hand, has a box which tells you the ideal day to phone in your meter reading (leitura). If you don't send the reading in you will invariably get an estimated reading as the days of the meter readers seem to have gone. Number to call is 800507507 - have handy your 10 digit user number from your bill which the robot lady voice asks for first. You need a touch tone phone or mobile.Even if you dont speak the lingo it is quite easy - or register edp online and do it there.

I have a fixed amount deduced by direct debit each month, they read the meter once a year and adjust the next bill accordingly. they also send an email (in Portuguese)with an adjusted DD for the following 12 months based on previous 12 months usage. It is very easy to change this monthly dd online to what you think might be more appropiate and late last year they upped it by €5 per month - I assume to cover for the increased IVA. So far anyway I am within target for this year, even allowing for the increase in IVA. I assume you can change the DD at any stage during the 12 months, depending on occupancy or usage. There are no interim readings or estimated readings.

Hi been havin problems with all my bills, have given the last 12 months Elec and Water Bills to my Lawyer, she has managed to get the Elec on a standing order for 80 Euros a month (seems high but she says they will sort if Ii have overpaid, Water will not agree to this they have said they will accept the readings she sends them, once a month and bill me monthly, then when they read they will check I have paid enough, fingers crossed this will work,
