Monday 8 November 2021 Western Funcho : CLOSED
Posted: Wed Oct 20, 2021 3:45 pm
WALK IS NOW CLOSED.
It's a just over 2.5 hours and it has a couple of steady inclines, but is otherwise predominantly flat(ish)......unless you want to detour to the trig point ( which 5 of us have done in the past, and adds about 15mins).....and gives great views of the barragem.
Difficulty ( on a scale of 1:5) : most is 2 (moderate) but a short part is 3(energetic)....and the trig point diversion is cat 4!!
Start : 10.00.....but please be there by 0945 if you want a coffee and order lunch.
Duration :about 2 hours 30 mins.
Optional lunch at O Gralha. Cost was about 9.5€which, with tip & charity contribution, came to about 12€. However, i understand the menu has changed to more a la carte , rather than prata de dia. I'll try & find out a bit more about costs and post them later when we are out there...unless someone can find out please? NB....See Willie's post below, we'll be there!
Dogs. Dogs are allowed as long as they are under control and are quiet.
Directions : drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island, which has a large palm tree on it.
If you want to meet at the start of the walk itself, then drive in the direction of the Barragem for 1km when there is a cafe on the left ( A Rainha): turn right, signposted Canestros and Gregorios.
Drive through both Canestros and Gregarios for 3kms then make a sharp left turn, almost doubling back on yourself.
Drive for 2kms until you come to a T junction at the top of the hill, turn right , drive through the village and the O Gralha is one of the last buildings on the left. please park opposite.

Please advise if you are intending to come, and whether you want lunch
Due to the recent increase in numbers, I am limiting this walk to a max of c20 people.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or before 0900, but not before 1 November.
