WALK MONDAY 5th JAN - FIGUEIRA CORK FOREST
A Happy New Year to all.
I am delighted to organise our first walk of 2026. It is a lovely easy walk. We head up through the pretty village of Figueira, through a Cork Forest and out into the countryside via the orange groves. We then loop back passing lots of grapevines and ruined farmhouses. Some of the tracks are through wet grass and we pass some bee hives which were not a problem last time we walked this route. We head back via a cafe in the village where we can stop for refreshments before heading back to the cars via the river bank. The walk is around 8 kms, 2 hours and not too difficult. Please wear suitable footwear, no charge but numbers limited to 20 walkers. We may look to return to Carvoeiro for lunch at Vimar.
Meeting time 10.00 am. Meeting point: Sociedade de Figuerense, Figueira (R.Calcada da Fonte 17, 8500-132). Directions: Drive west along the N125, pass the Alvor turning and Penina Golf. About 2kms further along go under a footbridge and immediately turn right at the sign: "Polidisportivo". Park just after the social club entrance. There is no cafe at the start of the walk.
