 If you want a good fillet steak try Casa do Bife half way up 'restaurant hill' on the left, if you have it on the stone you can cook it to your liking!

Yes it does an excellent fillet, all the food we've had there has been lovely with the exception of the chicken noodle dish my mother had on her first & only visit there, I think the top of the soy sauce bottle must have come off, it was incredibly salty, inedible in fact. But apart from that I highly recommend it. :D

Elle and Ella is a cut above your standard Steak/Prawn and Piri-piri restaurants.
The food is more Nouvelle and of very high quality.
The menu shows more class and imagination than any of the other restaurants in CVO, and is a little more expensive reflecting the higher standard of cuisine.

Its a place to take your wife/mistress or girlfriend for a special meal, rather than the kids for a family cheapo!

It's on the out road Rua Barranco virtually opposite the jewellers, bar Imprevisto on the right hand side.

Agree with all of Bruce's comments. Without doubt the best restaurant we have found in CVO.

We have just returned from our first visit to Carvoeiro (23rd-30th June) and would highly recommend eating here. We eat here twice and on both occasions the food and the service was fantastic. Unlike most places they actually ask if you want the cover (which I really recommend as it is the best I've ever had!). The food is fantastic - my husband only recently became a lamb convert and adored the rack of lamb. I had the steak, it was very good although part of it was a little over done although still highly edible (had asked for medium but part of it was pretty well cooked).

We will definitely eat here again on further visits! You will need to book to ensure you get a table - worth doing if you want a good meal out! It was, without doubt, our favourite place to eat!

Went to this restaurant on our last night, 4 adults and 5 kids. (7 - 15). My opinion is that it is a lovely restaurant, food good, service good and staff very friendly. But, my fault for not examining the menu from top to bottom, THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS !!

In this day and age, thats not acceptable. It was embarassing to have to try 4 different ATM machines before getting the money to pay the bill.

This resistance to enter the 21st century and accept credit or debit cards, even Portuguese ones, in restaurants is common throughout CVO.
Many is the evening Ive gone walkabout between dessert and coffe to elicit the means to pay the bill.

Sent the memsahib out one night...she got the cash without using the card....never did understand that one..........

Its not just in Portugal, have experienced same problem in Italy in Rome and Venice,
Remember there is a charge thet the restaraunt owners have to pay the credit card companies.
Where does this charge go on our bills !!

To say that because the resturant does not not accept credit cards is 'unacceptable' or that they are not moving into the 21st century is nonsense. Anytime I use the restaurant it is pretty full and anytime I pass it, it is busy. Why should the restaurant change it's cash throughput, and suffer the consequences, to accomodate what seems to be a few people. They seem to have all the correct ingredients for a well run business. If there is something that you don't like about a restaurant then don't go. It's as simple as that.

I have no problems with Elle& Ella or any other restaurant declining cards. I cheerily adapt to the situation....when in Rome and all that. I find the cash only thing one of the charms of CVO.
It is however a fact that in this day and age we have become an almost cashless society, and it can be embarrassing for somebody not used to the situation that prevails, especially in CVO, to be presented a bill and then have to go off seeking an ATM.

Those of us living in, or regularly visiting CVO, have no problem with it.

I dont see the need to take an attitude with the poor guy who was caught out and expressed his frustration over his embarrassment!

It does state clearly at the bottom of the menu outside the restaurant "credit cards not accepted" - in English. Would suggest you ask this question before you sit down, if it is likely to give you a problem.

LOOK!! I have no problem! I was just sympathising with the guy who did!

May I suggest those of you who are getting so stuffy just drop it! You sound SO self righteous and pompous
