away from Carvoeiro

Post by JohnG »

As the weather is now improving!! we are looking again for a chance to drive out into the country and hillsides for a lovely Portuguese lunch. We are not looking for the flashy tourist eating places but love a real typical Portuguese cafe or restaurant. Any suggestions? However, we must say we do support the local restaurants but prefer to eat there when we can easily walk into the village in an evening. At the moment, Cafe de Bife must come fairly near the top of our favourite list and we have never had a bad meal in Gale.

If you go through Monchique keeping on the road that bears to the right, after a few miles there's a place on the right. It's a bar and restaurant, well frequented by the locals but we had a lovely lunch there. Just across the road, there's a big stone horse trough if I recall, so perhaps someone can identify the place and give you better directions.
