Ele & Ela

Post by Barry »

Started a new thread to correct a previous mis-spelling. We ate there last night. For those of you who know it well, Claudio is not leaving (thank god says my wife), and Kim is still around. Food was good, but presentation continues to slip. Also no longer offered the tuna salad taster compliments of the chef. To improve presentation, they used to provide a small amount of vegetables on the plate, and then provide an additional dish of vegetables on the side. No extra veg., and brussel sprouts to accompany halibut? We asked for a doggy bag, so that we could save them for Christmas. :)

Therefore they make enough money to close for a period over the winter months.
Sounds as though they are not so highly rated as before from threads read and what people have said.
Admitedly its no one of our favourites. When we went, the food was nice, not overlarge portions, not enough for my husband, atmosphere better as the night went on, but horribly crowded tables together and a little pricey. We were not offered any complimentary drinks or extras or asked if we would like any extra vegetables etc, but we did note this was offered to a few other tables. Presumably they were regulars.

Think they have the advantage of passing trade, which restaurants such as L'Orange do not have. We still rate the food as "good", but found, as you did, that those litte extras have disappeared, as has that extra care in presentation. I guess if you don't have to try too hard and can still make money, there lies the temptation.

We really love it here, they go home every other year to spend with family, I think what we all forget is that they all work really hard all year and have the Holidays all at once, they are not the only ones who close for a long time, good luck to them, we always get drinks etc, they have even sorted Birthday Cakes etc out for us at no charge.

Think the portions of food just right, would rather have smaller good quality than loads of chips etc, just my opinion...

In all my years of being in and coming to Algarve,I have never dined at this restaurant.....I walk past it every evening, on my way to Colombos, as I come from apart at Monte Dourado and it always looks too crowded and small for my tastes.
Maybe I should try it? But I know from Lesley's experience, they don't like having 1 person on their own to dine....don't like that attitude.Never had that problem anywhere else.

I agree we make a point of eating in there at least once every time we go.
Food excellent and as I prefer to eat 2 starters instead of a starter and a main, they accommodate without any problem.
Food is tasty, well presented, freshly made and hot. As regards to portion size I prefer to leave a restaurant felling comfortable, rathe than over faced.

The staff are all very pleasant and try to make a point of remembering your Name.

In my opinion, there are 2 primary reasons for visiting Ele&Ela....the rack of lamb............and Kimmy.

My last 2 visits have been good for the lamb.....but seriously lacking in my favourite entree.....Kim

A happy and successful New Year to you both
