Algarseco BistroBar

Post by silver fox »

Have just returned from Carvoeiro after a very enjoyable stay, and i thought will i or won't i discuss the Algarseco BistroBar.
I have been coming to Carvoeiro for over 20 years, and have discovered a select number of restaurants which have been consistant in the quality of the food, atmosphere, and friendly staff.
However when word gets around, the queue's start to form, and i have always tried to keep quiet in a selfish sort of way when i find a new restaurant.
However here is a place that is under new management, and i believe will be a winner in every way.
From our welcome, to the after dinner drinks, i could find no fault.
With Jorge and Antonio front of house, and another Jorge in the kitchen, it is a wonderful team Try the Suckling pig, absolutley magnificant!!!!!!!!
Put this place on your list now..

Having just come back from 10 days in CVO, Gary and I tried out the Bistro at Algar Seco, now under new management. I must say the welcome and service we got was excellent. Very friendly even the chef came out to ask how we were enjoying our meal and also to bid us a 'goodnight ' The food was really good, although Gary found the sauce on the Veal a bit too rich for him (apparently Truffle based ) but fine for me.
Overall a great evening, very attentive and will certainly go back.

We had lunch there in March. Excellent French service and wonderful food. a great improvement. Not to undermine Jaoa'a new restaurant - it is great too - but different.

For my sins I know the Silver Fox and he is normally a cantankerous oul ba$tard when it comes to food, and he sends back more than he eats. So praise from him is as rare as hens' teeth. In this occasion however he has selfishly understated how good this place was. In the time we were there we ate in Brasserie Marina, Maxims, Primavera, Rei das Praias, Leao de Porches, Bela Vita , and Algor Seco, and Algor Seco was as good as any of them, and better than a couple. And he's right about the suckling Pig.

If you go there ask Jorge to show you the trick with the two corks, or his wee magic box 8)  and ask him how he discovered them

Rod and Silver fox - now there's a pair

If these two praise any restaurant, rather than sending most of their food back, arguing with the waiter, the head waiter, the chef, the maitre "d" and the owner, then I suggest you've got yourself a good restaurant. Full marks to Jorge and the crew at AlgarSeco Bistro Bar for achieving this rarest of feats.

As for the two corks, what about the spoon flip and the glass trick
