Telephone lines...?

Post by piglet »

Once the habitation license has been granted I was told today to allow at least 2 months before PT telecom will install the telephone lines...please someone tell me this is not true  and PT telecom will not be rushed
Has anyone any experience of having telephone line in new property who could shed some light on this ??
Hopefully

Hi Iane

I know...I was scared to ask the question  I just knew....but I am always an optimist and ... and just very occasionally...someone or something breaks the mold.

So like the habitation License for Xmas...is next Easter for the phones still to optimistic ?

When we moved last year it wasn't to a new house, but we had a new phone line put in as the previous owner had cable - I think it took about 2 months

Piglet:

1) Purchase date (notarys office) to complete the purchase of the house - 5 May 2003.

2) Visit to PT shop (Albufeira) to order 2 telephone lines (internal wiring already in place - 6 May 2003

3) Installation of 2 phone lines finally completed - mid August 2003

Approx 3 months end to end but interspersed with several (broken) promises and some visits which lead nowhere - everything OK in the end but typically PT (Port Telecom) along the way so Im told

Where I lived it took 2 weeks for pt to install a phone line. This was a residential developed area all they all had to do is to extent a new line from the next pt connector box: voilá.

Some houses are located in places far away from the next pt box. Others are located in developd areas but the existing boxes have no available connections. Sometime is hard to predict here the next urbanization will come out. In order to cover this cases in an economically sound way pt waits until a certain number of phone requests are made and does the whole bulk of upgrades and/or connections in one go.

I am sorry we are a poor country.

MAny thanks Paramonte...
Where we are, I doubt many people will have the hang up about telephones lines as me, as they use mobiles. I am greedy I want 2 separate lines so I can still work whilst in Portugal, so I will die waiting.

The charm of your country is totally different from the UK, it is me who has to accept the warts and adapt my lifestyle accordingly and make changes. I know I cannot have England with sun. Its just knowing in advance and planning accordingly.

Kind Regards

What paramonte says makes a lot of sense really - when I make the jokes about Portugal Telecom there is no malice - whatever the warts we love Portugal and after all if it was like England (rush everywhere ALL the time) we might as well have stayed there.

It is difficult to convey our love of the charm of a country that somehow always gets things done (but in its own way) without sounding patronising and we dont want to do that.

Paramonte - please dont take my little joke badly - anyone can criticise but any little jokes from me are good natured.

Is there any way to have a mobile settup temporarily whilst we wait for PT..Or satellite system......or would this be toooo costly....??...
I heard stories of six months from neighbors in my rural location..........
My Elecrticity took just over one year ..but they did have to erect a line of poles ......
