Heating
Heating
Hi we have been thinking about getting some type of heating for the villa this year has any one tried wave heaters are they any good or any other suggestions we only spend a couple of weeks in March when we need warming up on an evening.
Re: Heating
Do you have air conditioning?
Re: Heating
No we do not have Air Conditioning.
Re: Heating
I thought you Northeners were tough?
If you only visit occasionally then just get some electric heaters- they're pretty cheap.
Otherwsie try small calor gas heaters.

Re: Heating
The possible trouble you may have with wave heaters and/or oil filled rads if you only want evening heat for a couple of weeks in March could be the time they take to heat up the space. For just a quick hit in March I think my suggestion would be a couple of fan heaters - they give a quick hit, can be moved from room to room, are inexpensive and can be put in a cupboard when not in use. Wave heaters would be more suited to background heat. Fan heaters could also be used without heat in the summer to help on cooling as you don't have air con.
Re: Heating
Sound advice Farol, I only asked about aircon cos if you spend time here in the summer they will cool you then & warm you in March .Farol wrote:The possible trouble you may have with wave heaters and/or oil filled rads if you only want evening heat for a couple of weeks in March could be the time they take to heat up the space. Re: Heating
I believe that the most cost effective form of heating is using air conditioners in their invert, or heat mode.
We use that backed up by a woodburner in the sitting room.
There is a heatwafer option which is quite good, but whatever we do, we have to recognise that our houses are designed to be cool in summer, not warm in the winter.
Effectively, any heat we put in, just falls out through the walls.

Re: Heating
We installed air conditioning that also controls humidity and provides heating, and the system is really great throughout the year. The heating works quickly, and if the house has been empty for a couple of months during the winter, then the damp disappears within a couple of days as well.
Re: Heating
Hi thanks for all your thoughts.
Matryx with regards to air conditioning how many units do you have and can you give a rough idea of the cost to instal.

Re: Heating
Apologies for the delay, I've been travelling on business. We have a unit in the lounge, one in the hall, and one in each of the 3 bedrooms in the main house, total cost around euro 8k. Expensive, but worth it for us.kyledavid wrote:Hi thanks for all your thoughts.

Re: Heating
Seems to me, if you don't heat your property all through the winter then the walls are going to need warming. We find that, on the last couple of days, after having a blazing log fire, oil heaters and the aircon heaters, the place is just starting to get cosy.

Re: Heating
We use our air conditioning in invert mode, ie as heaters in winter. We switch then on in November and do not switch them off until March - even when we go back to the UK for a month at Christmas. They are left at 17 deg C when we are away. It does not cost much more than when we used to leave de humidifiers on when we went home and the house structure does not get cold so it warms back up to temperature quickly
Re: Heating
Thanks everyone for your replies ideally I think aircion is the way to go by the sound of it.
Cheers again.

Re: Heating
I can recommend SACL who are not too far away from CVO, heading towards Guia, probably above 10 minutes drive from CVO on the left. They fitted our A/C units, but it was a new build. We have one in the sitting room and one each in the bedroom. Our villa is very well insulated, unlike many older villas. Touch wood, no damp for us, even though I purchased an EBAC and shipped it over, thinking we would have to have it on through out the winter months. The units are Sanyo. I cannot recall the price, but it certainly was nothing like 8K, but I am not sure if that is because the place was being built so the pre-installation went in easily. It has worked well for us, once you understand how to put the heat mode on and not the cold.
Best of luck.
Re: Heating
I think I know where abouts you mean we will try them for quotes too .
