Porto Cruise Terminal - parking

Post by Laneyloo »

We are travelling from Carvoeiro to Porto in June and going on a Douro River Cruise. Can anyone please advise me on leaving the car somewhere near the Cruise Terminal for 6 days as I do not seem to be able to get any information.

Hello,

Tripadvisor gives some good tips and places where you can park in Porto though not necessarily next to the port(If they have that facility) but within reasonable distance.

Have a good trip.

Thanks Jame
Have been on the Tripadvisor Forum and been told of a website giving the marked carparks but that it will be expensive! Trying to alter our car hire now so that we can do two "hires" and therefore not have the worry of find somewhere to park when we get there. Hope its not too late for that as it is only a week off.
Thanks for your advice.

Tried to change car hire but either all cars are booked or you have to pay an extra £100 each way because it is classed as a "one way booking" even though we are hiring another car to travel back to the Algarve!!
Tried the hotel which Titan use for their clients in Porto but they have refused to let us park the car and we did consider staying there overnight but they are fully booked.
We are therefore sticking to our original plan and hoping that there will be somebody who can tell us where to park the car when we get to the Cruise Terminal in Porto. Surely we are not the only people travelling to Porto by car!

I have neighbours in my street that are Portuguese and they own a property in Porto. I will ask them today for info. as they obviously must know the area very well especially about reasonable parking. Here's hoping!

Have you thought about flying? Ryan air 20euros each way Faro to Porto.

Thanks Mairc. The cheaper flight times are not convenient as we are joining and leaving a river cruise in Porto. 6.30am flight to Porto means leaving the villa for Faro at 4am and going back from Porto to Faro we would not have disembarked the ship in time to be at Porto airport for 8.10 am.
The other flights are late evening so we would not be onboard in time! Also, I presume Ryanair, like other budget airlines, charge for luggage which would probably bring the cost to about £160 on the early flights and over £200 for the later ones. Good to know anyway!

another alternative is to book a car at faro airport. leave it back there. catch a taxi to the train station (they will charge extra for bags but still under €15) and train it to Porto. trains are not as cheap as Ryanair. Less car hire and no parking in Porto (+ no toll roads to Porto + no petrol) might go some way to covering the train/taxi costs. There are two early trains daily to Port from Faro. I make it about €140 return on the train for two. (the dates are just random to get a price and timetable)

you could also go ryanair one way and train the return still saving on car hire etc with only 1 taxi in Faro on the return. There is a metro from Porto airport to the city, the train station is probaby somewhere in the city probably more convenient to the port.
