To transfer the utlity direct debits (water, electricity etc) did you just bring the latest bill from the service provider or did you have to get new forms to complete from EDP, Lagoa camera etc ? Don' t think I would be brave enough to close the Barclays account until I saw the direct debits coming through BPI.

Using google translate looks like with a balance of at least €250 with Barclays through the whole year you get 20% reduction in fees, 10% for using the direct debit card (assume once is enough) 10% if you use their credit card  and 10% if you pay certain bills through the account. Think these may be utility bills but not sure so there is a possability to reduce the fee by 40% with not much hassle, but still think I will change in October.

The Commission Monthly above may benefit from the following bonuses:

Reduced by 20% if the Average Monthly Balance Account is THE> = € 250
10% reduction if subscribe and use the Credit Card Barclays
10% reduction if subscribe and use the Debit Card
10% reduction if you make domiciliation Payments

If the above condition is met and verified at the time of monthly billing, the commission will be € 4.00 / month (*) .

just thinking: probably have to do all 4 before you get any reduction in fees

We used to use Barclays but due to their monthly charge and not able to transfer money online we moved to millennium. We now pay 6 euros plus tax per month. We only keep enough money in our account to cover standing orders. Before we arrive in Carvoeiro we transfer money online from our home bank to the millennium account via HSBC. The staff are excellent.

Joeysoap, I took EDP bill to Cilia at BPI, she spoke to them directly and DD transfered, for the water again took the bill and she did a form which we delivered ourself to the water department located at the roundabout that takes you to Jumbo.
Our May bills already paid so we should be OK...hope so.
