We use the wood yard on the way to Silves golf club before you get to Silve station. If you follow the signs for golf it will take you past it.
The owner speaks some English. We had 600kg of olive ( hardwood ) delivered 10 days ago.
Not the cheapest but then it burns well and gives off loads of heat.
Much better value and quality than those in Carvoeiro.

Hi Gabby27

Try Álvaro Bitoque Tel 289 591 323. They have a huge covered yard between Guia and Gale and stack the cork oak logs (best for heat and sustainable) in your log store. They also supply cones for lighting bark chips for the garden etc and the son speaks good English.

As it is your first winter here is a tip for cleaning the glass of your woodburner. You will need a water spray bottle and newspaper. Spray the glass lightly with water and spray a page of scrunched up newspaper. Dip the paper into the wood ash in the fire and use this to clean the tar off. Use another clean piece to polish to a dazzling shine!!!!!

This certainly works!! :D However, haven spoken to a friend of ours, they have advised us not to use this method of cleaning the glass. :( Apparently the glass door is coated to protect it from the heat and subsequent craking and this method is slowly removing this protective coating. They have advised that we use good old glass cleaner instead.
