Fibreglassing a pool
Fibreglassing a pool
I've had a report that the pool is deteriating and a solution is to fibreglass the whole thing at a cost of 5,500 euros, anyone had any experience of this process and if the cost is reasonable?

Hi Pato, our place is just around the corner from yours and a couple of years ago we had a few cracked tiles that were on the sharp side and also some tiles that needed re grouting. If this is similar to your problem and I can't think what else could go wrong inside the pool (apart from the odd earthquake). They drained the pool then tapped each and every tile to see if it had blown and replaced as necessary. Took about 2 days and cost about 450 euros (plus the refill
)
Re: Fibreglassing a pool
I would get a quote for retiling which should include a surface skim of the old concrete before the new tiles are applied. I doubt that there would be much difference in cost and tiles look much better than fibreglass.

I think that Roy can tell you a few stories about their experience of applying tiles to a fibreglass coated pool.
Re: Fibreglassing a pool
Thanks up to now, one of the problems is that the step surfaces have disappeared, I was informed that this happens after a number of years they just disintergrate. I also need three metal valves in the pool changing to plastic because of rust, last year I got a quote to drain the pool replace four slabs on the steps check and replace tiles as required, clean and re-grout for 1,500 euros, amazingly the price has escalated this year. One of the problems is I'm not there to get prices and supervise the re-furbishment and I sometimes feel that the management are not competent enough to get me the best deal, obviously they charge a percentage of the project cost and therefore the more I pay the more they make, worrying!

Re: Fibreglassing a pool
Pato,
We had a new pool built two years ago and decided to go down the fibreglass route, Advantages are that it should not crack with any movement and during draining, also we have been quoted that the pool is warmer as the conductivity of the pool is lower,"yet to be proved but sounds good" I would recomend over Tiles as should be lower on maintenance over the years and should be far easier to be repaired if damaged, we also had all of the pipes replaced with plastic so it was quite expensive.
