Having just met with an official from the Camara, his last words to me were" This tower has been orded by the big boys in Lisbon and only them or an act of god can stop it & they have no intention of stoping it no matter what a hand full of foreginers think"

Driving to the airport early yesterday evening we noticed a lot of these towers have appeared along the coastline in recent weeks (Not the normal mobile phone ones,) very tall red ones at several places along the coast on the highest spots.

Here's an update.
In the space of one work-week the authorities have prepared a concrete base 4 mtrs square and 1 mtr high and installed a metal structre of approx 3 cubic mtrs. This is what our villa looks like now.

The tower itself will stand at the left rear of this box which will contain all the electronics. On the back is a cooling unit with a very large fan. I can only imagine what the racket will be like when this gets operational - our bedroom is just behind the palm tree.
For now we're concentrating on getting as much publicity as possible because we feel that is the only weapon available to us. Local laywers don't seem to think there's anything they can do to get the work suspended. It doesn't help that the courts are now closed until after Easter. We think that may have been part of the plan all along. We've formally asked for an urgent meeting with the Camara, but..........

Finally, I'm sorry my e-mail in the original post was missing a letter (damn gremlins). It is: haljones@sympatico.ca

Perhaps the answer to the increase in the number of staff is to block the road and have a sit in, preferably with TV cameras and press on standby, will have to book flights and come and join in if that is a route worth following

It would be good if Carvoeiro 1 could get in touch with that Camara official and avise him we are not just "a bunch of foreigners".

Apart from the fact there are several Portugese residents of ADM, who are just as mad as the rest of us, this project is threatening the jobs and livelihoods of dozens of Portugese families.
I know for a fact that one UK villa rental agency has been in touch with a senior official of the tourist department in Lisbon to warn him that tourists will not come to rent any villas in the neighbourhood. By one estimate that is between 25 and 40 properties. That means there won't be any work for house managers, maids, gardners and a further drop in income for restaurants, bars, taxi drivers, golf courses etc.

One other point he overlooks: the elections due at the end of this year will be the first time that foreign residents can also vote.

How will this compare with the " Chistmas Tree " on top of the Solfeiras hotel.
Were there any attempts to stop this when it was first suggested.
I have read that residents in Ferragudo earlier this year objected to masts being erected on an old tower there , what happened , were their protests succesfull ?

Looking at the photograph it looks as if the building is virtually touching a boundary wall, isn't there some regulation about the minimum distance you can build from a neighbouring property? I know I was informed when I wanted to extend, it had to be three metres away minimum

I think that is is the actual habitation that has to be min 3 or 5 mtrs if there is a window with clear glass.
Not that our neighbour has stuck to the rules, they have effectively joined two buildings into one.

One rule for us !!

This may not be your first choice solution but in Quinta do Lago they have disguised all the telecom masts by making them look like real trees. Obviously it helps if there are other similar trees in the vicinity but in any event it's more pleasing on the eye than a stark grey or red mast?

Hi all
Having spent the last week at our villa in ADM.I was certainly surprised at the speed of the "tower builders".The box that perhaps holds the electronic parts ,was put their very quickly and is only a few feet from the villa next door. What the noise will be like from the fan i dont know? If the tower is anything as big as suggested then it will not just effect those properties in ADM.I think any property lying to the north, east and west within a mile or so will have a good view of it.those properties that have a view of the coast that look via ADM will also be effected. If its 40mts Tall thats huge!!
You have my support.

We are across the other side of the valley towards the west and I expect that we too will be able to see the tower, certainly at night.

At over 130ft high it could dominate the CVO skyline in the same way that the water towers do.

Hello Hal, Good luck with the rally- I've had a copule of sleepness nights due to all the worry. I still can't fathom that my house (no 8) is about to turn from my oasis to a living nightmare.
How can the portugese authorities do this ?? The spanish have been doing this type of thing for a while now and as a result, their property market has suffered appalingly. Is Portugal going to suffer the same fate now as well???
Can you please post regular photos here so those of us not there can see what's going on? Much appreciated!
I just wonder if there's a BBC news crew in the Algarve covering Gerry mcCanns return.. Anyone know anyone at the BBC?? They'd love a dirty story like this!

 I just learned that I have to unload a truck that arrives at our shop at 2:30. So won't be joining you in ADM I'm afraid.

Quick report:

About 60 odd turned up to hear a very eloquent Hal describe the very short history of the "planning process" and seemingly suspicious way in which the local Camara have handled this situation.

The press turned out and seemed interested, but perhaps there could have been more concerned locals adding their voice to what does seem to be quite an iniquitous and ill-considered project.

While we have property on the opposite (west) side of CVO the issue here is not one that only affects residents of ADM, so one hopes that as many as possible will rise to the support of Hal and his helpers.

More pictures to follow, but watch the news tonight !
