I am pretty sure the nearest ones are in Lagoa.

You could always get second hand DVDs if you don't want to spend much on them. Always loads on ebay.

No names I'm afraid, but believe me what they took was just rubbish. they did me a favor!!

I do think people treat rental houses and cars very badly. How many people do you see with their feet on the dashboard, I'm sure they wouldn't treat their cars like that.

For horror stories about houses talk to a maid and she'll tell you how they take bed linen down to the beach, completly wreck houses, dirty everything.

All we have at the moment while we wait for dish etc to be fitted is a large collection of the " daily Mail Free DVD,s ".

We had great fun watching old comedies, hancocks half hour, dads army etc, old films like "kind hearts and coronets ", inspector morse etc.

We have a large collection of unwatched DVD,s from the past 5 years ( incl Lord of the rings trilogy ). Aim to watch these through the dark Algarve winter nights. ( Will probably never get round to doing this either ).

Maybe your guests took them down so they didn't have to look at them anymore? As you say, they probably did you a favour?

Perhaps the answer could be that people will abuse property, cars etc. if they feel that, maybe, they are being given a raw deal for what they have paid for?

We leave some top DVD's at our villa along with board games, books, pool inflatables etc. and have never had any go missing. In fact, we seem to have accumulated even more.

We did have a game of scrabble go missing last year but our guests told us that they packed it accidentally and asked us to take the money from the security deposit! :)

How about TV series? My kids are loving Stargate Atlantis. Older ones could be Murder She Wrote and other mystery ones.

As far as the stealing clients go, it is legal to make copies of DVDs you have purchased and leave them instead of the originals.

Strictly speaking, that's incorrect. As I understand it, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act prohibits the copying of any material that contains a copy protect mechanism, regardless of the purpose.

I think that you have it wrong. It is completely legal to make copies that you use for your own purpose. So, if you purchase a DVD for your villa and to safeguard it, make a copy, you would be in the clear. BUT, let me look it up again and if I am wrong, I will eat my words. :P

Pass the salt, please.

Talk about an anti-consumer piece of rubbish legislation! This is a situation where I believe in civil disobedience.

ETA: But what about the EUCD?

What to watch

Post by suziebear »

My daughters aged 24 and 14 still love watching the old videos. I shipped our videos out recently ready for our permanent move there pretty soon and my 24 year old who lives there already was lining them all up to watch one after the other, after all they were hers originally, from all the Pooh Bear ones, Fern Gully, Never Ending Story, Spot the Dog, Matilda, Madeleine, and she knows the Home Alone script backwards shes watched it that much (although I must say we have to watch this film at least once during the run up to xmas every year!!.Yes I did say she was 24 but she was a nursery teacher in the UK and now takes charge of all the child care workers for thomsons on the algarve and costa del sol so I suppose she could put it down to that - Ha!! My 14 year old can watch Mrs Doubtfire over and over again. All in all I think if youre going to leave DVD/Videos in your villa, anything that the family can watch will be appreciated. Although we too have all the daily maily freebies - that we havent watched yet, maybe we will when we get there.

There is a DVD rental shop in CVO. Its down the ramp opp Happys past the Angel half way along the corridor. Its hardly blockbusters but tey are only 2.50euros a night to rent and if you get one on a saturday you only need to take it back on Monday.
The lady in the shop is really nice and while you are there you can get yrself a beer and enjoy one of her very popular prato do dias!!
Only in Portugal do you have a DVD shop with a bar and cafe combined, how civilised

They used to have a video hire at my regular filling station. One day the guy in front of me took out Crocodile Dundee. I remarked to the attendant that I must be the only person never to have seen the film, so he said he would put it by when it was returned. Next time I went in, I got to the front of the queue and he said in a loud voice "I've got that video you wanted" and proceeded to take a plain brown bag from under the counter. "It's Crocodile Dundee!" I said to the people behind. "Yeah sure." came the reply. :)
