HELLO ALL
Can anyone tell me if there is any major place to be in Silves for New YEARS. I was wondering if anything normally goes on at the castle.
We are coming out with friends and would like to take them somewhere a bit lively after a meal in Rui's I know you do not have to book normally for this restaurant (just q outside) but do you have to for New YEARS Eve. Any info on Cafe Englaise would be good too.
Also has anyone got the name and phone number of a good taxi service operating in Silves to take us back to Odelouca after a night out? perferably someone who can understand a little english as we are still learning portugese and probably will be for the next decade.
Thanks

Hi Littlelegs.
Despite obviously being a Silves "local", I have to confess that I have never spent a New Year in Silves. I have normally gone with some Portuguese people I know from Silves to Albufeira to have dinner at somewhere like "A Ruina" (definitely have to book) and then watch the big firework display there on the beach. I believe there are fireworks on a smaller scale in Silves and in Armação de Pêra. I hope maybe someone else might be able to assist you.
Do you mean Café Inglês or Fábrica do Inglês? They might have something going on at the Fábrica. I'll try to find out for you.
I might be able to get you the name and number of a reliable Silves taxi driver for you. I'll ask someone I know tomorrow or at least during this week.

I think I mean Cafe Ingles - if that is the place near the castle and I would really appreciate the name of a good taxi driver, and maybe we can give him a try when we are over again for a few days in November.
hear from you soon and anyone else out there.

Yep, it is Café Inglês near the castle. Nice place. A lot of people go there Sunday afternoons to sit and have a drink and listen to the live jazz music. Don't know if they have anything going on New Year's Eve or not though.
Let you know about a taxi driver soon. Been very busy today helping some friends with about phase 5...yes, PHASE 5 of matriculating their UK car here. Absolute nightmare.

I may post about it later.
Need some rest and relaxation now.
