The Train

Post by DVBRO »

Having lived here for many years, can someone please advise me as to why we have this stupid Carnival attraction, which I notice has reappeared. How does it improve the economy of the village? Why does it cause traffic disruption? What is it's purpose. Does it have third party liability, or any insurance for occupants?

A few years ago I might have agreed with you.
3 baby grandsons later I cannot tell you how much they look forward to their trips to CVO and "the train".

Seems to me a classic case of resident v tourist.

My grand kids, love it. I guess some residents think that small children should be kept out as well?

Matbe they should have one that does a tour of the bars during the evening/night, that would appeal to me.

I've taken the twice-weekly trip to Ferragudo on the train a couple of times now, and it's a pleasant and quite inexpensive excursion. I've been to Carvoeiro in April for the last five years, but the train wasn't running this year, only starting last Saturday (17 May) from what I could see on the webcam. I guess I can understand why residents don't appreciate it, though.

As the one who does the driving when here, I once took the train (here on my own) and had a great time being able to look around and see sights wouldn't normally see as I was driving. When sitting in my local bar on the "out" road, I and others always wave at the train as it passes, good to see the youngsters and some adults wave back!!

Each time I saw it this week it was about full, almost like high season in July and August. Must be a good sign for the local economy and shows that visitor numbers are growing.
