motorhome storage.

Post by melvyn m »

:?:
Hi All

My wife and I are staying at my brothers property In Carvoeiro for a few months. We have travelled in our motorhome and it won't fit on the drive. It's 9mt long. Does any one have or know of somewhere that we may store it till around the end of March. Obviously we will pay storage costs.
Thanking you all in hope
Regards Melvyn

You can find a map/list of camping areas here: http://www.roteiro-campista.pt/Faro/ing ... aro-uk.htm it being out of season you can probably negotiate a price and it might be a safer solution?

I would like to put a page together on motorhome travel in Carvoeiro / The Algarve, if anyone wish to share their experiences please email webmaster@carvoeiro.com

One of the many good things about Carvoeiro is that we are not infested with this trend that blights so much of the Algarve.
We often smile at those pantecnicons we see lumbering through the village, causing chaos as they edge their way round the square and up the narrow streets looking for somehwere to park ( for free ) for the night.
Fortunately some camaras are seeing the income potential and setting up official pay sites and moving them on from beachside car parks etc.

I agree with you EMM, we took the grandkids to Silves for a picnic by the river and the carpark was full of wild campers. Freeloaders the lot of them and they are apparently tight with their money and apart from shopping in the supermarkets, contribute nothing to the local economy.

That said, we shouldn't tar Melvyn with the same brush. He's trying to get his vehicle off of the road.

At least when the campervans are shacked up on Silves carpark, they are not crawling along the 125 at 40kph!

I admit to being a killjoy as I do not want to see beaches and lake sides polluted by the waste from so called " free campers ".
Arrive with the sunrise , leave at sunset taking everything away with you, is that such a bad philosphy.
I can see the attraction of being able to go as I please but with that comes a responsibility. There is no difference between the large numbers of campers who congregate in some resorts to itinerant travellers.
It is only a difference in class and the value of the vehicles they travel in.

you sound like you are tarring all motorhome owners with the same brush . not all are untidy and irresponsible

have you never seen the state that some renters leave villas and apartments in?

No I'm not. Most of the motorhome people who use proper sites are anti the wild campers. Do you think the people who squat in the car parks and on the marina site at Ferragudo enhance the area?

Poor old Melvyn, I expect he wishes he hadn't started this.

no I don't think a lot of them enhance the area's you mention but when we were over in october we noticed a lot of places had been
blocked off, maybe if there were more proper sites available in the area there would'nt be as many "wild campers"

There are an increasing number of official sites but in a lengthy debate in the Algarve papers last year some campers were adamant that they would NOT pay and if this was enforced stop coming to the Algarve to which the general response was " good riddance ".

LADIES AND GENTS
all my brother wants is a place to park his motor home!!.he is staying for a few weeks at our house, and he has had an offer to park the motorhome via our villa managers, which is great.however we are no longer certain it will fit in the space so i suggested to him, perhaps now wrongly, to use the forum to ask a question ,to see if anyone knew the wherabouts of some where to park up the motorhome for 6 weeks or so whilst he and his wife stay at my house in ADM.

Melv
Sorry about all this.
I thought it would be a good idea to try to ask for somewhere to park the motor home incase it doesn't suit at our villa managers place,
It's what you call a friendly welcome to Carvoeiro :D
I'm sure they don't mean it and no doubt, EMM, sorry don't know who it is, may buy you a beer during the
Next couple of months :?:

Hey Messrs M. Don't worry about it, that's forum life for you. One thinh you could try is the car dealers along the N-125. They have plenty of space, good security and might be glad of some extra money. Good luck.

Failing that, take it down to Silves carpark and sublet it :)

given the choice of parking in an empty/isolated car park or one with a number of camper vans with tables/chairs etc spread out in front of them and the occuptants obviously around somewhere, I know which one I would prefer.
