I was in Carvoeiro a few weeks ago and had a lazy holiday at Agua Hotels Vale da Lapa near Sesmarias.....without children. I'm intending to return during the school holidays with 2 thirteen year old boys with me and I'm debating about where to stay. I'm familiar with the area having been a frequent visitor over the past 12 years and know the location of most accommodation, I'll also have a car for the duration.
So the places that I'm considering, after much debate and the fact that the three of us don't want to share one hotel bedroom are ......... Monte Santo, Vale D'oliveiras Quinta Resort, Val del Rei or perhaps Colina da Lapa or Pestana Palm Gardens (although the most recent review that I can find for this one was back in 2009).
Any first hand opinions or alternative suggestions would be appreciated

Suggest send the boys to an activity holiday in the UK, and you go off to CVO on your own!! bliss !!

I would have thought that you could have rented a 2bd apartment on one of the many complexes small or large in the area for the same price or less than the " premium " locations you quoted.

I'm not sure about the 2 bed apartment thing having stayed at two quite gruesome properties at Rocha Brava and then more recently the pristine accommodation at Agua Vale da Lapa and before that Vila Domilu I know where my preference lies. I don't want to rough it on holiday, I did that years ago. Life wont revolve around the hotel as we'll be enjoying the beaches at Albandeira, Marinha and others during the day and eating in and around Carvoeiro by night but I still like to have a bit of luxury and after flying out with Ryanair I'll probably need somewhere good to make a full recovery.

The two bed bungalows on Quinta do Paraiso are lovely http://www.quinta-do-paraiso.pt/en/list ... bjectID=12. It is about a 15 minute walk into town, quite a hill but that's Carvoeiro for you. On QdP there are three big pools that kids can splash around in, play ball and generally have fun. There always seems to be a lot of kids of all ages, so plenty of friends to make. There's some form of entertainment in the evenings and waterpolo etc. in one of the pools most afternoons. A first class trattoria on site and within easy walking distance, Monte Carvoeiro, which has several really good restaurants around a central square. Alternatively, a short walk in the other direction, takes you to the "Ritz", where you can have a good meal, including drinks, for under €10 per person.

Parking is not a problem.

If I was you I would try at get an apartment at Vila Nova, between sesmarais and carvoeiro.
It has a great pool and large garden and lots of teenagers in the summer, my boys make lots of friends that they meet up with year after year!
they swim in the pool, play football and cricket and all go off to the slide and splash together. Me? I sit by the pool with a glass of wine

....and the neighbours are nice!

But a bit far to walk into town?

I live just outside the entrance and it takes me exactly 10 minutes.

That's very fast walking Sandy and possibly not achievable for the average family. Especially coming back up the hill.

What's all this?? A sales campaign for Villa Nova???.....not exactly an impartial assessment coming as it does from Villa Nova, and area residents

By the same token.....Villa Nova is OK....if you cant find a place at Centianes
