BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!

Post by TomUK »

The weather report on BBC News this a.m. (Friday 26th) warned of severe weather on the way for Southern Spain and Portugal. The presenter said it would be the severest weather for years with winds up to 90 miles (or was it kms?) an hour and heavy rainfall.

Take care all you folks out there - make sure that anything that can blow away (patio furniture, etc.) is secured.

Let's hope it's not as bad as predicted.

Hello.
At the moment the sky is cloudy, it is not raining and the wind is moderate in Carvoeiro.

At the mo weather - see http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/08554.html says winds of 18km/hr and 16C - looks like that on the weather cam - It wasnt Michael Fish doing the BBC forecast was it? :D

Poor old Michael Fish - he'll never live that down! Although he was forecasting it not to be too bad, when in fact there was a hurricane. The weather report I referred to was for the weekend weather. Hopefully, it will be a false alarm.

Looks like the storm will hit Northern Portugal & Spain. Hopefully the Algarve will miss the worst of it. Just damp & mild here at the moment.

High, angry looking clouds, some blue sky to the west and quite windy. About 15 degrees, rained last night.

Got my kids coming out in March, so I hope you are right.

susiebear - told you to fasten those tables and chairs down or you may never see them again!!

The weather warning has been repeated on BBC News this morning - and it was 90 mph winds (I wasn't sure earlier whether it was kph).

The weather map shown was a bit vague because it shows the swirling winds covering the whole of Portugal and Spain.

Hope the worst misses you folks in the Algarve.

Just staggered down to beach. Winds 60mph, massive angry waves surfing across Centiannes beach and crashing into the base of the cliff, throwing spume and water 30 feet into the air. Spray and spume going over the top of the O Stop restuarant and onto the main road into Carvoeiro
Too dangerous to go down onto the beach, and could only stand and watch by hanging onto the rail.

The sun keeps breaking through, and when it does the effect is like some amazing Turner painting of a sea storm.

Came home and there is a swell and waves on our swimming pool!

Very exciting......but done that.....can we have some sunshine and balmy warm days now please God?? :D

We flew in today and was it rough! Seat belt signs on and off all the way for pretty heavy turbulence and a 3hour 10 minute flight at that. Approach through the dense cloud found even worse turbulence and I think this is the first time I have actually heard people scream. The first time also I have heard the flight crew tell the cabin crew to strap in early in the descent. Still, nice to be here even though part of our 3 phase electicity had gone and no oven when we arrived. EDP have been around and all now seems OK. Like Bruce we pray now for a few decent days.
