Easyjet from EMA & Luton

Just had an email from EJ which lists their concern and projected proposals in regard to flights from EMA & Luton next year. Seems that they are looking to reduce their Luton operation by about 25% and move out of EMA all together. They have started their 90 day consultation with the respective staff as we speak. They seem to be blaming dear old Gordon and the Airport Passenger Duty taxation. More details are to be found under "Media" on Easyjet.com.

The reason they gave for reducing the Belfast operations by 10 percent was that they had grossly underestimated the economic downturn.

East Midlands no longer commercially viable for EJ. If that's what they say then fair enough. People in that vicinity should've used them more!

Luton - i believe is more about commercial airport charges.
EJ are a private business that can pick and choose where it wants to fly from and to, depending on consumer demand. It's called good commercial sense; they are not some kind of tax-payer subsidised public service.

As long as they are flying 18.15 out of Gatwick, a week tomorrow, I'll be happy :D

Their schedule doesn't mention Faro or Lisbon.

The fact is that some of these regional airports are pricing themselves out of the market.
Norwich city council got greedy, and lost most of their services, and to some extent maybe Luton council may be doing the same.
Why is Manchester and EMA too expensive, yet Gatwick seems OK???

I suspect that Easyjet are taking a leaf out of O'Learys book and doing a bit of a Ryan air on the airport operating authorities, hoping that Luton, especially will fall in line rather than lose their major operator.
